402 Guestrooms, Ballrooms and Casino Getting Total Makeover
.

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO April 2006 The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino has begun phase one of a $35 million renovation to keep the 32 year-old building in sync with the latest in luxury resorts. The finished product will result in a grand lobby, updated casino, refreshed ballroom, and guest rooms with a new chic Latin Caribbean look.

In keeping up-to-date and looking fresh, the hotel will undergo a major renovation during which time major areas of the hotel such as guestrooms and bathrooms, ballrooms and the casino will receive a total makeover.

It is a very exciting prospect to be able to deliver a brand new room product to our very loyal guests, General Manager Hans Georg Rohrbein stated. Our accommodations will be tasteful and airy with a Latin Caribbean ambiance while maintaining a sophisticated delivery with the new Marriott Revive bedding package, flat screen televisions and other touches that appeal to the most discerning business and leisure traveler.

The casino will be the first to receive treatment. It will experience an expansion and upgrade starting mid-April and should be completed by early June.  The existing casino will remain open in its entirety 24 hours a day and the expansion is expected to open in early June 2006.  The finished product will have 12,700 square feet of gaming space, 470 slot machines, 26 table games and a casino bar.

Following, the main tower will be closed for a complete renovation. All 402 rooms will receive Marriott Internationals latest features in design, luxury bedding and state of the art technology.  Included will be Marriotts new Revive® bedding featuring 300-thread count sheets, down comforters, sheeted duvet covers, thicker mattresses with plush toppers and fluffier pillows. The ballroom will also be getting a face-lift with renovations taking place in September and meeting facilities due for work in October. Additionally, the cabana wing, consisting of 123 rooms, will be introduced as a brand new product featuring new accommodations and suites.

The 21-story structure that houses the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino was originally constructed in 1964 and opened as a Sheraton Hotel and then transitioned to the DuPont Plaza Hotel & Casino. It was then closed for a period of time while it was totally restored and refurbished. It reopened on February 16, 1995 boasting the Marriott name and bringing a new level of quality to Puerto Ricos shores. The San Juan Marriott & Stellaris Casino was last refurbished in 2001 to renew its exterior and interior.

Editors note: The Dupont Plaza Hotel and Casino was a hotel built in 1964 located on the beach in Condado, Puerto Rico, a district of San Juan. At around 3:30 in the afternoon of December 31, 1986, a massive fire was set at the Dupont Plaza by three disgruntled employees during a labor dispute. Flammable liquid was placed in a storage room on the ground floor of the hotel. The fire led to the death of 97 people and injured 140. This is considered to be the most catastrophic hotel fire in Puerto Rican history. In the years that followed the fire, the hotel was refurbished and today is operated as the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.

Construction and renovations are scheduled to be complete by December 2006 and the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino will ring in 2007 with a brand new, state-of-the-art product.

The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino is located just five miles from the airport with immediate access to San Juan's fashionable shopping, dining, adventure, nightlife, historical and cultural landmarks.  Experience a tropical beachfront setting, amazing  picture perfect views along the Atlantic Ocean, multiple sundecks packed with palm trees, lounge chairs, hammocks and cabanas, a swim up bar and so much more. The San Juan Marriott provides a relaxing environment, luxurious guest rooms and suites, full casino, invigorating spa, two elaborate swimming pools, meeting facilities, six dining options and a lobby lounge for nighttime entertainment.
