American Architect Michael Graves Tasked with Designing New
Prototypes and Conversion Plans for the Wyndham® Brand
.
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (March 29, 2006) Wyndham Worldwide, Cendant Hotel Groups upscale hotel brand, today announced that it has selected Michael Graves internationally acclaimed architecture and design firms to create a unique, integrated interior and exterior look for its hotels, including new prototypes and signature in-room products.

The Graves firms are known in hospitality for projects including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels in Orlando, Fla., and international luxury resorts in Egypt, among others.  Their other signature work includes the scaffolding that surrounded the Washington Monument during its restoration in the late 1990s. Graves became a household name in the United States with a line of home products designed for Target, Alessi and Dansk.

The Graves teams first assignment is to design new prototypes and conversion plans that will reflect the unique features of the Wyndham® brand, said Peter Strebel, Wyndham Worldwide president.  We challenged them to create a consumer-centric lifestyle experience that is relevant to guests of Wyndhams three tiers: Wyndham Hotels, Wyndham Gardens and our new select-service product, now under development.

The Graves architecture and design firms plan to approach this task through a comprehensive integrated design, creating a Wyndham architecture and interior design that also addresses the exterior design, food and beverage service, guest-room furniture and fixtures, he said.  We seek a distinctive look that is fresh and contemporary yet draws on the history and attributes of our host communities.

The Wyndham design initiative aims to both exceed guest expectations while delivering a strong return on investment to Wyndham owners and developers, Strebel said.  This initiative will enhance our already distinctive brand identity, creating multiple points of differentiation designed to attract and retain guests and thus drive revenue to our properties.

Based in Princeton, N.J., and New York City, the architectural firm of Michael Graves & Associates and its affiliated product and graphic design company, Michael Graves Design Group, work together to address complete projects, from the largest scale of the building to the smallest detail of the accessories, Strebel said.  This multidisciplinary approach is the core of their unique ability to create value in brands across all levels.

Since its founding in 1964, Michael Graves & Associates has been at the forefront of architecture and design worldwide and has received more than 180 awards for design excellence.  Michael Graves, FAIA, received the AIA Gold Medal in 2001 and the National Medal of Arts in 1999.

Based in Parsippany, N.J., Wyndham Worldwide offers upscale hotel and resort accommodations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.  Wyndham Worldwide guarantees that the best rates for its properties will always be found on its Web site.
