CHICAGO (Jan. 10, 2006) – Thomas J. Mathes, general manager of the award-winning Hotel Burnham, has been elected to the board of directors of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association.  He joins fellow industry executives in helping guide the overall mission and direction of the association.

Mathes brings to the board years of luxury hospitality industry experience.  Prior to becoming the Hotel Burnham’s general manager, he held senior management positions the 483-room Hotel Allegro, 171 W. Randolph, and the 192-room Hotel Monaco Chicago, 225 N. Wabash.  A proponent of giving back to the community, Mathes arranged for the Hotel Burnham to adopt William H. With more than 450 members, the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association is the 5th largest state lodging association in the United States.  IHLA provides operations, technical, educational, marketing and communications services, plus government affairs representation, to the state’s lodging industry.

The award-winning Hotel Burnham is located at One West Washington.  This beautiful 122-room, European-style hotel resides in an historic, living landmark developed in 1895 that is the first direct predecessor to Chicago’s modern skyscrapers.  The hotel combines a passionate architectural style with a flair for contemporary luxury.
