The Legendary Kahala Will Carry Its Own Flag With New Management |
HONOLULU,
HI -(Jan. 20, 2006) Kahala Hotel Investors, LLC, an affiliate of Honolulu-based
Trinity Investments, LLC, announced today its plans to rename the Kahala
Mandarin Oriental Hawaii. As of March 1, the luxury 364 room property will
become The Kahala and management of the AAA 5-Diamond resort will be turned
over to Landmark Hotels, Incorporated.
Charles M. Sweeney, chairman of Trinity, said, "The Mandarin Oriental Group has revitalized this historic property beautifully and with a certain grace over the past 11 years. We will continue all the historic hospitality traditions that have made The Kahala a favorite of kama'aina and visitors since it opened in 1964. We will renovate the hotel, care for it, and transform it into a destination that exceeds its current luxury status. We have already been accepted as a member of Leading Hotels of the World." "The Kahala is recognized around the world as one of the few icons among luxury properties. Now we will make changes and enhancements that will take it to another level of service and product so that it continues to be Hawaii's reigning luxury resort hotel." Landmark has managed a number of Trinity assets in the past. It has operated independent and branded hotels under franchise agreements for over 23 years. It has been a luxury hotel operator in Hawaii and Arizona, and is now involved in hotel operations in Mexico. In Hawaii, Landmark operated The Kea Lani Resort, Villas and Spa from 1992 to 2001. During that time, The Kea Lani became one of the leading luxury resorts in Hawaii, in both market share and profitability. Chuck Sweeney has considerable experience with the traditions of Hawaii hospitality. "During my tenure as president of Amfac Hotels in Hawaii and on the mainland, I learned to love the islands. The experience I shared then with some of the legendary hoteliers of the time has shaped my philosophy and vision for the resort of today." The Kahala is one of only four AAA Five-Diamond properties in the State of Hawaii. It opened as the Kahala Hilton Hotel and became part of the Mandarin Oriental Group in 1994. Kahala Hotel Investors, LLC completed its acquisition of the hotel from Kahala Hotels Associates Limited Partnership at the end of last November. |
