New York, September 6, 2005 - Shangri-La Hotels
and Resorts announces the appointment of Mary McCarthy as director of sales
for the eastern United States and Canada. McCarthy will be responsible
for the sales and marketing activities of Shangri-La's New York regional
sales office.
McCarthy will raise the visibility of Shangri-La's 47 properties in the marketplace and supervise sales activities in the eastern U.S. and Canada. Her responsibilities include overseeing the group's promotions, tradeshows and sales events in the region and managing a team of seven based in the New York office. McCarthy reports to Karen Gray, director of sales and marketing for North America, and assumes Carolyn Blackburn's position. Blackburn, a 14-year Shangri-La veteran, is working part-time as associate director of sales for the eastern U.S. and Canada. Prior to her appointment, McCarthy was director of new business development at The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. During her 12-year tenure she successfully led global teams in the sales, marketing and strategic planning departments. An expert in leveraging luxury brands, she also previously directed sales efforts at Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide's New York office as national director of travel industry sales and regional director of sales.
