Named for the 25th Annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design |
WHITE PLAINS, NY, August 9, 2005� Twenty-three competition finalists
and the �Designer of the Year� � the Starwood Design Group � have been
named for the 25th annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality
Design. Represented by 15 design firms, the finalists were selected
from more than 170 entries, and include properties from Canada, England,
Germany, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and the United States.
The Gold Key Awards are presented by the International Hotel/Motel &
Restaurant Show® (IHM&RS) and sponsored by Interior Design and
HOTELS magazines. Award finalists and winners in eight categories
� as well as the �Designer of the Year� � will be recognized during the
90th annual IH/M&RS, at the Gold Key Awards Breakfast, on Monday, November
14, 2005, at the Mandarin Oriental New York.
The 2005 Gold Key finalists are:
�The quality of the 2005 Gold Key Award finalists is outstanding,� said Christian Falkenberg, show manager. �Each year, the competition exemplifies the best designs in the industry from around the world.� Judges for the 2005 Gold Key Awards were Karen Daroff, Daroff Design; David Ling, David Ling Architect; DiRoNA member Jo-Ann Makovitzky, Tocqueville Restaurant and Rudy Tauscher, Mandarin Oriental, New York. Judges selected finalists based on design creativity, aesthetic value and commercial viability. Finalists will be recognized and Grand Prizes awarded in each of the competition�s eight categories during the Gold Key Awards Breakfast, Monday, November 15, 7:30 � 9:30 a.m., at the Mandarin Oriental, New York. The awards ceremony includes the presentation of the "Designer of the Year" award, given by Interior Design magazine and HOTELS magazine to the Starwood Design Team. The Starwood Design Team is lead by designers Ellen O'Neill, vice president of design for St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton; Db Kim, vice president, Westin Design; and Aaron Richter, senior director, W Design. The driving force behind the Starwood Design Team is differentiating and winning by design which culminated in this award. The Group provides overall design for all brands under the Starwood umbrella. The 90th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show will run Saturday, November 12, through Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at New York City�s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Following a full-day of conference and networking activities on Saturday, November 12, the IH/M&RS will feature three days of exhibits from Sunday, November 13, though Tuesday, November 15.
