Mohonk Mountain House Receives the National 2005
Star of the Industry Award in Guest Relations from
the American Hotel & Lodging Association

NEW PALTZ, NY - (May 16, 2005) - Mohonk Mountain House, a "Victorian-castle" resort 90 miles north of New York City, won the national 2005 Star of the Industry Award in Guest Relations from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA). The resort also received the 2005 Star of the Industry Award in the Guest Relations category from the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSH&TA). 

Introduced over 30 years ago, the AH&LA's Star of the Industry Award program was designed to recognize lodging employees and properties throughout the country that best provide quality service in the industry. This year, Mohonk Mountain House received the award for superior service in the guest relations category, recognizing consistently outstanding efforts in meeting guests' needs.

In addition, Mohonk Mountain House received the Star of the Industry Award in Guest Relations from NYSH&TA, which honors exemplary professionalism and exceptional service in the New York state hospitality and tourism industry. 

Owned and operated by the Smiley Family since 1869, Mohonk Mountain House has welcomed generations of guests during its 136-year history. "It is often said that service is the essence of the resort business," said Bert Smiley, fourth generation president of Mohonk Mountain House. "I have always felt that at Mohonk, the willingness and ability of our staff to provide outstanding personal service to our guests in a warm, gracious and efficient manner is the foundation of our success. We are pleased that both the AH&LA and NYSH&TA have recognized our continuing efforts in guest relations."

Mohonk Mountain House had been honored before by the NYSH&TA. In 2003, Kidane Mikael, dining room captain at Mohonk Mountain House, won the Star of the Industry Award for Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year.
