 J. Thomas Baker Named Vice President
of Marketing for Melrose Hotels

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - (April 14, 2005) - John J. DePaul, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Melrose Hotels announced today that J. Thomas Baker has been named vice president of marketing for Melrose Hotels, which includes The Melrose Hotel, Dallas, The Melrose Hotel, Washington, D.C., The Melrose Hotel, New York and the Westin Great Southern in Columbus, Ohio. Baker takes this position after four years as general manager at the Westin Great Southern Hotel and two years as corporate director of marketing for Melrose Hotels. He will be based at the Melrose's flagship property in Dallas. 

"Melrose Hotels have a well-earned reputation as upper upscale properties located in some of the country's best cities," said DePaul. "In his position as general manager of the Westin Great Southern, Tom demonstrated excellent marketing, promotional and leadership skills and we believe that his commitment and expertise will contribute significantly to our goal of strengthening the Melrose brand and position in the market."

As vice president of marketing, Baker's emphasis will be on strengthening the Melrose Hotels brand as an upper upscale hotel offering, positioning the company for future growth and acquisitions. In addition, Baker plans to increase the use of Internet marketing as a tool for raising awareness, building the brand and increasing customer loyalty. In December 2004, Melrose Hotels received the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Adrian Award for its sophisticated, user-friendly web site, www.melrosehotel.com

Prior to joining the Westin and Melrose Hotels, Baker served as the resident manager of the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Ariz. where he was responsible for the operating and sales departments of the 222-room, Four Star, Four Diamond resort. Before Enchantment, he was the director of sales at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, Calif. where he oversaw all group and leisure sales at the 700-room resort. 

Baker has also held various sales and marketing positions with the Washington Court Hotel in Washington, D.C., the Desoto Hilton in Savannah, Ga., the Registry Resort in Naples, Fla., and the Pan Pacific Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.  Baker is a graduate of the Chapman University in Orange, Calif. where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.
