Apr. 4, 2005 - A La Quinta hotel spent more than $1 million to spruce up .
The La Quinta Resort and Club spent $1 million on 850 beds and bedding and $8,000 for iPod players and Bose Sound Dock digital music systems.
"The resort was built in 1926. Our goal is to keep up the Hollywood getaway style and provide guests with the most up-to-date luxuries and amenities to keep them happy," La Quinta Resort and Club spokeswoman Sara Harper said.
The La Quinta Resort purchased the beds from Serta in Itasca, Ill.
The 45-acre, 800-room resort is part of the KSL Resorts Collection in La Quinta. The Collection includes seven hotels. All hotels in the collection were upgraded, Harper said.
The La Quinta hotel added iPod music players and systems to its 24 suites. The hotel began offering the music suites March 15.
"We partnered with iPod on this and they loaded the music into the players," Harper said. Guests can bring their own iPods and play their own music or use one provided by the hotel.
The resort picked up some business. "We started promoting the iPod suites during spring break," she said. "We had a lot more people upgrading to suites and we think it was because of the iPods."
The hotel is not worried about theft of the portable iPods, Harper said. "We've had no problems with stealing."
La Quinta replaced all its beds in the first week of March and the bedding changes will be finished April 15, she said. "The bedding is custom-made so it took a little longer. The bedding came from the same Turkish mill that makes Frette and Annichini products."
The new bedding includes, down blankets, sheets and soft throw pillows.
"Over time, we will probably see business increase because of the beds," Harper said. "Repeat customers and word-of-mouth will help."
