 Boykin Management Company Selected to Manage
The Sanderling Resort and Spa



Cleveland, Ohio, March 15, 2005—Boykin Management Company, one of the nation’s leading independent hotel management companies, has announced that it has been selected to manage the luxurious Sanderling Resort and Spa, located in Duck, North Carolina. The hotel is owned by Turnpike Properties based in Winston Salem.

The Sanderling Resort and Spa is located in North Carolina's Outer Banks on 9.2 acres that toBoykin logouches the shores of both the Atlantic Ocean and the serene Currituck Sound. Throughout the resort, architectural details and furnishings have been carefully designed to evoke the character of a grand seaside hotel and complement the unique environment of the Outer Banks. The resort provides guests with luxurious accommodations including 88 guest rooms, a luxurious spa, IACC certified conference facilities, two restaurants and lounges, an enclosed tennis and fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, and outdoor tennis courts. The Sanderling is listed as one of Travel and Leisure magazine’s 500 best hotels in the world for 2003 and 2004 and has been listed on Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List of “Best Places to Stay in the Whole World” for seven consecutive years.

There are 88 spaciously appointed guest rooms and suites contained within three inns. Each distinctive cedar shingled building offers accommodations with private porches and is individually decorated with a rare collection of wildlife art and sculptures by Grainger McCoy, porcelains by Boehm, and Audubon prints. In addition, there are four villas with three and four bedroom accommodations to attract families and small groups.

The 8,000 square foot Sanderling Spa has nine treatment rooms, complete with yoga studio and includes a heated indoor pool, whirlpool and steam room, a Vichy room for hydrotherapy and a waterside gazebo for outdoor treatments.  The broad menu of spa services available include massage, body, skin and nail treatments that utilize sea mud and local minerals. The spa is staffed by skilled and licensed technicians trained in the latest European and American philosophies and techniques.

The Left Bank Restaurant serves French-inspired, contemporary American cuisine, in a formal 60-seat dining room that offers spectacular views of the Currituck Sound.  The interior design features a display kitchen, attractive fabrics and furnishings, custom cherry millwork and a museum-quality collection of porcelain Doughty birds on display.  Sante, The Magazine for Restaurant Professionals honored The Left Bank with the 2004 Grand Award in Culinary Hospitality for excellence in wine and spirits and cooking, naming the restaurant “Culinary Hospitality Restaurant of the Year”.  The Sanderling also features the 154-seat Lifesaving Station Restaurant and Swan Bar, a restored 1899 Coast Guard facility, decorated with nautical artifacts and a cozy fireplace with sweeping views of Currituck Sound.  A private wine room is also available, inclusive of a varied wine list which has won the Award of Excellence four years running from Wine Spectator magazine.
