Wellington, New Zealand Gets First Top-flight Hotel
in More than 15 Years, the 144 room Bolton

.

Wellington - New Zealand - 27 January 2005 - The first top-flight hotel to be built in Wellington in more than 15 years, the Bolton, will open next week.

The 144-room hotel, located in Bolton Street near Parliament, is an apartment-style hotel where the rooms are owned by outside investors.  An additional ten owner/occupier apartments make up the top three floors of the 20-level building.

We knew there was room for this type of development in Wellington.  This was reflected in the huge interest from potential buyers and the fact that most of the rooms were snapped up by Wellington investors, said developer, Warwick Angus.

Construction company, Multiplex, began work on the $40 million project in July 2003.

The 4 ½-star hotel, a stones throw from The Terrace and within easy walking distance of Parliament and Lambton Quay, is targeted at the business traveller.  Each of the 48 studios and 96 one and two-bedroom suites have high speed internet access, voice-mail messaging and spacious work areas, effectively enabling the suites to function as a private office.

We want it to be a pleasant working environment, as well as a stylish and relaxing place to stay, said Mr Angus.  We want our guests to enjoy coming back for weekends, and to encourage out-of-towners to come and stay.

The Bolton is already fully booked for two of the top sporting events in Wellington the Rugby Sevens next month and the Lions rugby test in July.

The hotel has a fine dining restaurant, Bisque on Bolton, and a lobby café, Brioche.  These will be overseen by award-winning chefs, Steve Harris, who for the past seven years has been executive chef at Wharekauhau Country Estate in the Wairarapa, and Stephen Morris, executive chef at Westpac Stadium and a former Chef of the Nation.

Designed for around 50 guests, the restaurant can be extended to cater for weddings and functions for 100 guests.  The Bolton also offers 24-hour business centre facilities, a boardroom and a fully equipped gym, spa, sauna and indoor heated lap pool.

Wellington is an increasingly popular visitor destination.  We want the Bolton to be the first choice for people looking for a sophisticated and stylish, yet relaxing place to stay in the central city, said Mr Angus.
