SHERMAN
OAKS, CALIF.—January 25, 2005—The most visible hotel in the busy Sherman
Oaks/Encino area of Los Angeles—on Ventura Blvd. just west of the Sherman
Oaks Galleria and Interstate 405—has reopened as the Courtyard
by Marriott—Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley. The owners of the hotel
that once was the Valley Radisson have invested $11 million in a total
renovation of the property.
The renovation began in July 2003 and was completed last month. David Cornish, general manager of the hotel that features 196 guest rooms and 17 suites, says everything but the shell of the hotel was replaced. “We just about built a new hotel,” he says. “We did not just renovate. This was reconstruction. We put in new floors, walls, bathtubs—everything.”
“It was the company’s first hospitality interior design project and they did an incredible job,” says Keith Wolff, an ownership representative for the property. “When you walk into the hotel, you immediately know it is a special hotel. The design of the entire hotel flows together.”
Each of the Courtyard by Marriott’s guest rooms include views of the scenic San Fernando Valley or Hollywood hills. Each room features a balcony with a sliding door, a dark walnut armoire, king size bed, spacious two-tier desk and queen size sofa bed. The king size beds feature Serta pillow top mattresses, down comforters and feather blankets. Free high-speed Internet access and 27-inch flat panel TVs also are provided in all guest rooms.
Outside the hotel, on the fourth floor, a brand new swimming pool was constructed with an adjacent fireplace. Inside the property, the Courtyard Café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel also offers catering services in its brand new ballroom. “We can serve up to 500 guests in the ballroom during a banquet occasion such as a wedding or bar mitzvah and up to 400 guests for a meeting event,” Cornish says.
“The amount of meeting space is very unique for a Courtyard property of this size,” Cornish says. Wolff says making the hotel’s guests feel as comfortable as possible and even more comfortable than they might be at home was the goal in the renovation. “The response from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive,” he says. “Everyone agrees that the hotel is not a typical Courtyard.” About the Courtyard by Marriott—Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley: The Courtyard by Marriott—Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley, located at 15433 Ventura Blvd. just west of Interstate 405, includes 196 guest rooms, 17 suites, outdoor pool and fitness center.
