Lodging Conference’s Above and Beyond Award

.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2004) – Joe Kane, president of Days Inns Worldwide, has received the Lodging Conference’s Above and Beyond Award in recognition of his humanitarian efforts and contributions to the industry during his 39-year career.

Kane was honored during the 10th annual Lodging Conference at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix on Oct. 1.  Presenting the award were Morris Laskey, chief executive officer of Lodging Unlimited Inc., the show sponsor, and Mary Lou Koys, executive vice president.

“Joe embodies the word hospitality,” said Koys. “His generous, caring spirit is the reason he received the Above and Beyond Award.  He takes that spirit and turns it into action.”

Bob Weller, group president of Cendant Corporation’s Hotel Group, characterized Kane as a “great credit” to Cendant and the lodging industry.

“Joe has been a close friend and colleague for the past 20 years,” Weller said.  “I cannot think of anyone who better exemplifies character, loyalty and dedication to whatever he undertakes."

Kane is the current secretary/treasurer of the American Hotel & Lodging Association and will serve as the organization’s volunteer vice chairman in 2005 and chairman in 2006.

As an active AH&LA member for more than 30 years, Kane has served on its Council of Inns & Suites, Economy Lodging Council, Quality Assurance Committee, Experience Lodging Initiative panel and Chairman's CEO Council.

He set a record during his two years as chairman of the American Hotel & Lodging Education Foundation’s Annual Giving Campaign by raising $200,000 to benefit students through outreach programs and scholarships.

Kane also organized an effort to raise $300,000 for the Sunshine Foundation, a nonprofit organization that aids children with life-threatening disabilities, and was an advocate for America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing individuals, groups, and organizations from every part of American life to build and strengthen the character and competence of the nation’s youth.
