Case Study - Broadmoor Resort

The Broadmoor Resort provides an environment of unparalleled beauty and luxury. The 700-room resort is nestled on 3,000 acres near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs. Forty-five holes of championship golf, nine tennis courts, two outdoor heated pools, a world class spa with twenty-eight treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and indoor heated pool are just a few of the activities available to Broadmoor guests.

The Situation 

As a large-scale destination resort, The Broadmoor�s property-wide POS requirements are unique�including fifty-two meeting, banquet, and function rooms. Eleven restaurants are contained within The Broadmoor Resort, ranging from elegant tableside service in the Penrose Room, to a sandwich from Julie�s or the Golden

"The Broadmoor needed a single vendor solution because of the complex integration needs of our operation and our desire for guests to have full room charging and other special privileges anywhere in the resort,� said Robert Starling, Business Systems Analyst at the resort. �We needed a reliable, robust solution that could help us deliver the level of service our guests have come to expect." 

InfoGenesis met these challenges head-on with Revelation�the POS solution that could easily scale to The Broadmoor�s 65+ POS terminal operation with ease.

Finding the Right Solution

In 2001, The Broadmoor undertook an extensive decision-making process in order to find a POS solution that could handle their immediate operational needs and grow with them into the future. An InfoGenesis customer since 1992, The Broadmoor felt it was time to upgrade their current system and investigate all their options to see what other vendors in the marketplace had to offer. The Broadmoor reviewed four different POS systems in great depth and went through numerous demonstration sessions. After extensive research, they decided to renew their contract with InfoGenesis. 

The integration capabilities of Revelation helped The Broadmoor reach their decision. With existing interfaces already in place for their property management software, and the possibility of expanding their business through innovative and highly advantageous mobile POS, The Broadmoor knew InfoGenesis was up to the task of providing a single, unified hospitality solution. A unified solution produces impressive results�with the reporting necessary to make better decisions and the means necessary to improve operational efficiency.

The Broadmoor also recognized Revelation as a robust client/server POS application designed for operations with multiple revenue outlets. Revelation is ideally suited to manage any combination of fine dining, bar, room service, and gift shop operations. The scalable nature of Revelation helps The Broadmoor operate consistently across outlets via centralized configuration and reporting. In addition to the scalability and integration capabilities of Revelation, The Broadmoor decided to renew their contract because of the reliability of the InfoGenesis solution. The IBM SurePOS terminals withstand the harsh conditions of foodservice�providing outstanding investment protection and an easy-to-use integrated touchscreen display that keeps transaction times low and facilitates employee training..

Scalability and Reliability

The Broadmoor has enjoyed the scalability and reliability of Revelation for quite some time. Their diverse outlets are handled with ease�all performing without interruption. �The system is extremely reliable and delivers tremendous flexibility,� said Starling. �We recently needed to implement a very specific custom surcharge. The Revelation solution was flexible enough to allow us to implement the change easily and customize the check to present this charge to our guest in the manner that we wanted.�

Mobile POS

With the help of mobile POS, environments typically not part of the POS solution also experience better guest service at The Broadmoor. The InfoGenesis technology gateway allows handhelds to interact in real time with the rest of the POS solution. Through the handheld, a server sends orders directly from a poolside table or seat to Revelation via a wireless network connection. When it�s time to pay, guests simply provide their room number and the order is charged to their account. The handheld also provides the server with instant menu information. This eliminates the need for memorization and reduces long training times. All this increased efficiency has lead to greater guest convenience and satisfaction.

�The most exciting thing about the Revelation installation is that we�re seeing an immediate impact on the level of service we�re able to offer,� said Starling.  �We have seen a 90% reduction in customer complaints regarding the timeliness of food delivery at the pool. All this has come about since implementing the handheld solution from InfoGenesis.�

As The Broadmoor looks to the future, it is apparent that the technology now in place will support the resort�s growth initiatives. Upcoming projects being considered include further wireless and cashless initiatives as well as implementation of a gift card solution, delivering even more convenience for their guests.
