Miami, FL, (September 20, 2004) - Although affected by Hurricanes Jeanne
and Charley, Sol Melia Hotels & Resorts properties in Puerto Rico
and the Dominican Republic have had only minor damages, said Executive
Vice President, Central-North America André P. Gerondeau.
The Paradisus Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was the most affected, reporting some minor flooding in some of its buildings and having to empty out its pool due to all the dirt and mud that ran into the pool during Jeanne. And although most of the area was without electricity, the guests of the Paradisus Puerto Rico never felt the effects as its generator provided power to all rooms and main buildings in the hotel. While hoping for no more hurricanes or storms, the hotels & resorts were able to handle the inclement weather with little to no property damage and no problems with their guests. The hotels have opened their doors to guests of neighboring hotels who may have had more damage to their property. Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts manages five distinctive brands - Meliá Hotels, Tryp Hotels, Sol Hotels, Paradisus Resorts and Hard Rock Hotel - totaling more than 350 hotels in 30 countries. |
