NEW ORLEANS, LA, July 27, 2004 -  Michael O. Smith has been appointed general manager for Hyatt Regency New Orleans.  As General Manager, Smith will oversee the operations of the 1,184-room hotel, its 120,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, and 650 employees.  Smith comes to Hyatt Regency New Orleans from Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. where he served as general manager for the past three years. Smith was actively involved in the Washington, D.C. community serving as a member of the Hotel Association, Washington Convention & Tourism Corporation, the Downtown Business Improvement District, the D.C. Taxi Commission, the Marriott Hospitality High School and many other worthwhile causes. 

A native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Winston-Salem State University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. 

The 1,184-room Hyatt Regency New Orleans is connected to the Louisiana Superdome in downtown New Orleans and just minutes from the famed French Quarter, Bourbon Street and Mississippi riverfront.  The hotel�s 120,000 square feet of function space including 54 meeting rooms, conference center, exhibit hall and ballroom provides the perfect venue for meetings and events of all sizes.
