Two John Q. Hammons Hotels General Managers, 
Bill Maguire and Jay Johnson, Receive
Awards From Marriott International

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – April 30, 2004 – John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. (AMEX: JQH) proudly announces that two of its general managers were recently recognized as top performers among Marriott International, Inc.’s (NYSE: MAR) southeast and mid-Atlantic regions.  Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels is the nation’s leading independent builder, developer, owner and manager of upscale, full-service hotels, resorts and suites.

The following John Q. Hammons Hotels general managers were presented awards as a result of their hard work, superior performance and exceptional property representation:

  • Leadership Excellence Award and Customer Service Award – Bill Maguire, general manager of the Renaissance Suites Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Financial Excellence Award – Jay Johnson, general manager of the Coral Springs Marriott Hotel, Golf Club and Convention Center in Coral Springs, Fla.
Maguire and Johnson were acknowledged by Marriott for a variety of operational and service-oriented accomplishments, including increasing food and beverage profits and positive guest satisfaction survey results.  

According the Mr. John Q. Hammons, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc., these achievements contributed to a successful financial year for John Q. Hammons Hotels, and they support the company’s commitment to growth of operational and financial excellence.  “Outstanding service and guest satisfaction are two of the principles John Q. Hammons Hotels is built upon,” said Hammons.  “Receiving Marriott’s general managers awards is an example of how our management and hotel staff are dedicated to providing exceptional service, while always striving to exceed the standards set by Marriott and John Q. The Leadership Excellence Award, presented to Maguire, recognizes general managers who are known to consistently be role models of courageous leadership, professional expertise, innovation and high achievement.  Under Maguire’s leadership, the Renaissance Suites Hotel in Charlotte placed fourth among all Renaissance Hotels in North America with a 92.2 percent overall satisfaction score measured by Marriott’s guest satisfaction surveys.  

Through Johnson’s leadership and the commitment of his team, the Coral Springs Marriott Hotel, Golf Club and Convention Center experienced an 11.5 percent increase in RevPar and a gross revenue increase of $725,000.  These exceptional accomplishments contributed to Johnson’s receipt of the Financial Excellence Award for being one of the most improved properties in the southeast region.
