Marriott International Appoints Maruiel Perkins-Chavis Vice President, Diversity and Workforce Effectiveness


Maruiel Perkins-Chavis has been named Vice President of Diversity and Workforce Effectiveness for Marriott International . She has held several human resources positions, most recently serving as Marriott's Senior Director, Leadership Talent Management and Diversity, where she was instrumental in the design of the Women and Minority Leadership Talent Development Inventory and Leadership Development Workshops.

Perkins-Chavis joined Marriott International in 1990 in the Corporate EEO/AA department where she was promoted to Director, Equal Opportunity and Program Development.

In her new position, Perkins-Chavis will continue to report to Steve Bauman, who leads the Talent Management & Workforce Effectiveness department in Human Resources and will also report to David Rodriguez, Executive Vice President, Lodging Human Resources on diversity. She will be responsible for corporate-wide diversity talent initiatives in support of Project Excel and the Committee of Excellence.

Prior to working for Marriott, Perkins-Chavis worked in a variety of human resources positions for BDM Corporation and Amtrak.

Perkins-Chavis has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Towson State University and a master's degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from American University. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, the Corporate Women's Network and the Black Human Resources Network Group.
