Brown Hotel and Conference Center
.
BLACKSBURG, March 4, 2004 The Hilton Hotel Corporation has named Larry E. York of Hardy, Va., to serve as assistant general manager of Virginia Techs Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center (DBHCC). In his new capacity, York will supervise operations at DBHCC and oversee the transition to operation of The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center when the new complex opens in 2005.

Hilton began managing the on-campus facility for the university last fall.

I am very pleased to have Larry in place to oversee the day-to-day operations of Donaldson Brown as we introduce Hilton's expertise and operating procedures that will be the standard for the new Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, said Gary D. Walton, Hiltons regional vice president and general manager. Larry has been an integral part of the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center management team for the past nine years and will be a great addition to the wonderful staff already in place in Blacksburg.

John Dooley, vice provost for Outreach and International Affairs (OIA) at Virginia Tech, said, We welcome Larry York to the Virginia Tech campus with confidence that he will repeat his history of success in the hotel industry. The move to The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center when it is completed next year will be an exciting and challenging experience. I look forward to working with Larry and our team at Donaldson Brown for a positive and successful transition.

York joined the staff at The Hotel Roanoke in 1995, first serving as director of engineering and most recently as director of rooms. He previously held posts as director of engineering at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City, Va., and at the Omni Georgetown Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Other staff changes at Donaldson Brown include the appointment of former interim managing director Robert Muse of Blacksburg, Va., as director of conference services; Vicky Price of Blacksburg, Va., as human resources coordinator; and Teresa Hughes of Roanoke, Va., as assistant director of sales. The senior leadership team at the Hotel Roanoke is now directing corresponding departments at both facilities.

Founded in 1872 as a land-grant college, Virginia Tech has grown to become the largest university in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Today, Virginia Techs eight colleges are dedicated to putting knowledge to work through teaching, research, and outreach activities and to fulfilling its vision to be among the top 30 research universities in the nation. At its 2,600-acre main campus located in Blacksburg and other campus centers in Northern Virginia, Southwest Virginia, Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Roanoke, Virginia Tech enrolls more than 28,000 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries in 170 academic degree programs. Last year, Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech reached an additional 70,000 people in more than 450 courses and programs, many of them presented at Donaldson Brown.
