WHITE PLAINS, NY, March 19, 2004� Eight new
and enhanced award categories will expand the scope of the 24th annual
IH/M&RS Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design. Adding
further distinction, the 2004 edition will also launch two new industry
awards - �Designer of the Year,� presented by Interior Design magazine,
and the Icons of Industry Scholarship Award, sponsored by Network of Executive
Women in Hospitality Inc. (NEWH), The Industry Network. Presented by the
International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS), and
first-time sponsors Interior Design and HOTELS magazines, the Gold Key
Awards recognize leading designers of restaurants and lodging properties.
Refined Gold Key award categories will expand eligibility requirements for a significant number of properties and designers. The categories include:
�We are thrilled to announce these exciting changes to the Gold Key Awards competition. The new sponsors bring greater exposure within the design community, and the new categories allow a larger number of design professionals to enter this prestigious competition,� said Christian Falkenberg, vice president and general manager. The competition is open to all designers of hotels, motels, timeshares, restaurants, clubs, cruise ships, casinos, conference centers, spas and other hospitality facilities. A panel of distinguished designers and lodging industry professionals will serve as competition judges. All entries must represent areas constructed or completed between January 1, 2003, and June 1, 2004. Entry fees are $150 for the first project submitted and $100 for subsequent projects. Grand prize winners and finalists will be recognized at the IH/M&RS Gold Key Awards Breakfast Ceremony in New York City, on Monday, November 15, 2004, 8:30 a.m. � 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased online at www.ihmrs.com. The 89th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show will run Saturday, November 13, through Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at New York City�s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Following a full-day of conference and networking activities on Saturday, November 13, the IH/M&RS will feature three days of exhibits from Sunday, November 14, though Tuesday, November 16. The market presents some 1,500 hospitality industry suppliers and attracts approximately 45,000 in total trade attendance.
