Fairmont Streamlines its Corporate Marketing Division -
Appoints Two Executive Directors

.

TORONTO, January 12, 2003 - In a strategic step to maximize brand communication and streamline its marketing services to its hotels, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the recent appoints of two executive directors within its Corporate Marketing division. Taking on increased levels of responsibility and larger roles within the group will be Thatcher Brown, who has been appointed executive director, brand marketing and Sean Taggart who has taken on the role of executive director, marketing services.

While also increasing internal communications, these appointments will have a direct impact on Fairmonts brand consistency, says Brian Richardson, vice president, brand marketing & communications. Whether creating new consumer packages, developing partnerships or strengthening the channels of communication with our guests, this consistency will foster a better understanding of the Fairmont brand and help us deliver a memorable travel experience each and every time someone stays with us.

As Fairmonts executive director, brand marketing, Thatcher Brown will directly oversee the areas of advertising, corporate partnerships, and guest research. Working closely with each area, Brown will look to further increase departmental synergies and ensure the communication of a consistent brand message. Since joining Fairmont as the companys director of marketing for U.S. and Mexico in 2000, Brown has been instrumental in establishing, developing and nurturing a number of significant business relationships and non-traditional partnerships with companies such Porsche, David Leadbetter Golf Academies, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. With the new position also comes a new location, as the promotion will see Brown locate to Fairmonts corporate headquarters in Toronto in early 2004.  A graduate of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, Brown served as Fairmonts director of business development and non-traditional partnerships prior to this appointment.

Taking on a greater role in Fairmonts marketing division is Sean Taggart, who has been named executive director, marketing services and will manage the areas of direct marketing, guest data, relationship marketing, and traditional partnerships.  An integral component of the brand marketing & communications department since signing on with Fairmont in June 2001, Taggart is charged with creating Fairmonts campaign management branch and has implemented many central reporting and analytical tools to support the marketing measurement needs of Fairmonts growing collection of luxury properties.  As a member of the Canadian Marketing Association and U.S. Direct Marketing Association, Taggart has worked tirelessly with his team to increase Fairmonts direct marketing and database marketing capabilities and was recently rewarded for the fruits of his labors, with the Fairmont taking home the 2003 Gold CMA RSVP Award for the brands summer golf campaign in the travel and leisure category.  Prior to joining Fairmont, Taggart worked at the IBM Corporation where he provided senior leadership to a team of over 30 marketing professionals and has also held several high-level positions in both the financial and management consulting industries.  Taggart attended the University of Western Ontario where he graduated with a degree in the schools statistical science. Program.
