Carlson Hotels Worldwide Appoints Oliver
Vice President Of Development For Canada

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (January 15, 2004) ---- Carlson Hotels Worldwide today announced that David Oliver has been appointed vice president of development for Canada. In his new role, Oliver is responsible for seeking and securing managed, owned or franchised opportunities for the company�s hotel brands: Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn. Oliver will work in conjunction with AFM Hospitality Corporation, the master franchisor for Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Park Inn across Canada, to grow these brands.

Oliver reports to Bill Sipple, vice president of development for full-service hotels in the Americas, Carlson Hotels Worldwide.

�David�s long history of successful hotel development in Canada is due in large part to the excellent relationships he has built with potential franchisees and lenders,� said Sipple. �His past work in market feasibility, financial transactions and construction brings an added level of value to the Carlson organization that will work to benefit franchisees, owners and management companies alike. We�ve been impressed with David�s strong track record from the start, and expect great things from him in the future,� added Sipple.

Oliver has been involved in numerous aspects of the hospitality industry for over 30 years. His global experience has spanned small and large-property operations, multi-property operations, marketing, feasibility, consulting, construction and development.

Throughout his career, he has held several executive positions with world-renowned hospitality companies, including Sonesta Hotels, Princess Hotels, Sheraton Hotels and Canadian Pacific/Fairmont Hotels. In 1988, he served as director of operations and development-worldwide for WardAir Airlines� hotel division, in which he was responsible for that group�s operations, marketing and overall financial results. Following this, Oliver served as president of Ramada/Renaissance Canada, spearheading the growth of the Renaissance brand from one to six hotels in two years.

In 1992, he was named general manager and CEO of the London Convention Center project where he oversaw all aspects of the center�s construction, operations, marketing and staff training. This accomplishment led to a senior-level development role with ITT Sheraton and Starwood Hotels and Resorts for Canada, Cuba, and Bermuda.

Most recently, Oliver was president of Strategic Hospitality Services Inc., which specializes in hotel development, asset management, franchising, brand development and strategic operations on a global basis.

Additionally, Oliver serves on the board of two companies, Leisure Canada, a company developing international four and five-star resort properties in Cuba, and FreeStay Hotels, a web-based hospitality marketing company.

Oliver is a native Canadian, formally educated at universities in Victoria, B.C.; Toronto, Ontario; and in the U.S. at the University of Las Vegas in Nevada. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a specialization in hotel management, tourism and casino operations.
