Hong Kong, February 5, 2004 - Asia's leading
luxury hotel group, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, announces the appointment
of Martin F. Waechter as chief marketing officer from the end of March
2004. With 42 hotels in Asia Pacific and the Middle East and a further
26 new projects under development, the group has decided to strengthen
its corporate marketing team due to its rapid expansion.
Martin F. Waechter will rejoin Shangri-La's corporate office in Hong Kong from Frankfurt-based Steigenberger Hotels AG, where he is currently a member of the board of managing directors. Prior to this role, he worked for Shangri-La in Hong Kong for seven years from 1993 as vice president marketing with responsibility for a number of properties and then as vice president sales and marketing, when he headed up global sales and distribution. In his new position, he will report to Giovanni Angelini, Shangri-La's chief executive and managing director. Commenting on the appointment, Giovanni Angelini said: "Martin's 30-year experience in the hospitality industry in Asia and Europe means that he is extremely well placed to lead our global strategic marketing efforts at this exciting time of our development. We look forward to welcoming him back to Shangri-La after a four year absence." Shangri-La has hotels in Australia, mainland China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, with a room inventory of over 21,000. In addition, there are projects under development in Australia, mainland China, Dubai, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Qatar and Thailand. |
