Roy A. Young Appointed Managing Director for
The Georgian Terrace Hotel, Atlanta

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, September 2003 ... Benchmark Hospitality has appointed Roy Atherton Young as Managing Director for The Georgian Terrace Hotel, an historic 319-guestsuite property located in the heart of Atlanta’s burgeoning Midtown district.  This marks a return to Atlanta for Mr. Young, who once served as chairman of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Burt Cabañas, chairman and chief executive officer of Benchmark, made the announcement.

manager of The Northland Inn, a 231-guest suite property managed by Benchmark and located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, near Minneapolis.  Prior to joining Benchmark Hospitality, he served as vice president of hotel operations for The Claridge Casino Hotel, a 510-guestroom property located in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  While at Claridge, Mr. Young planned and effectively executed the Senior Leadership Conference for Claridge officers, directors and managers.

Roy Young was also vice president and general manager for the Players Island Resort and Spa, a 500-guestroom property located in Mesquite, Nevada.  During this period, Mr. Young successfully lead the resort’s pre-opening planning and execution.  Before this, he was vice president of operations for Park Place Resort and Bally’s Grand Hotel, of Atlantic City, New Jersey.  While at Bally’s, he was instrumental in attracting new markets to the hotel, resulting in a significant increase in occupancy, room revenue and market share.

Mr. Young has held senior-level executive positions for a number of prestigious properties and hotel management companies, including the Doral Resort and Spa, a 650-guestroom, 2400-acre destination resort located in Miami, Florida -- and home to the PGA Classic:  The Doral Ryder Open; the John B. Coleman Hotel Company of Chicago, Illinois; and the Omni International Hotel, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Young served as the chairman of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1981 to 1983.  He attended New York City Community College and Farleigh Dickinson University, where he has also served on the Advisory Board. 

Built in 1911 at the corner of Peachtree Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue in Midtown Atlanta, The Georgian Terrace Hotel is one of the city’s most distinguished hotels, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The property features 319 one-, two- and three-bedroom guest suites, a state-of-the-art conference center, stunning rooftop pool, health club, and two restaurants.   The spacious guest suites are elegantly furnished with mahogany vanities and fully equipped kitchens.  In the hotel’s magnificent public areas, guests can walk amongst history with classically proportioned hallways and parlors accented with vaulted ceilings, marble and wood columns, intricate plaster moldings, crystal chandeliers and spiral staircases.
