 Darren Smith Named Managing Director
of Daufuskie Island Resort & Spa

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, SC . .July 16, 2003 . . . Greg Champion, president of Tiburon Hospitality Management, has announced the appointment of Darren J. Smith to managing director of the 190-room Daufuskie Island Resort & Spa.

Smith brings over 26 years of hospitality experience to his position at the award-winning island property.  As managing director, he will lead a staff of more than 250 associates and oversee the marketing, sales and operations of the exclusive island resort and spa, including its membership programs.

�Darren brings an exceptional level of experience and stability from the upscale destination resorts he has managed,� said Champion.  �Those characteristics alone, combined with his commitment to exceptional service standards and guest satisfaction, made him an ideal match for Daufuskie.  We�re confident that under his leadership he�ll continue to enhance the four and five star attributes of this property.�

Prior to joining Daufuskie Island Resort & Spa, Smith served with Noble House Hotels & Resorts for 9 years, most recently as general manager for the 210-room Sunburst Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz. Before that he was the general manager for the Jupiter Beach Resort in Jupiter, Fla.  His background in the hospitality industry also includes serving with Registry Hotels as general manager of the Registry Resort in Naples, Fla., as well as the Registry Resort in Scottsdale.  

Smith was extremely active in the hotel and tourism community in Scottsdale, having been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past three years with his term ending in 2004.  He was appointed Chairman of the City of Scottsdale�s Preservation Commission, and had just been elected to Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce for 2003-2005. 

A native of New Orleans, La., Smith studied business management at Clayton College in Clayton, Ga.  He and his wife Linda and their two children will reside on Daufuskie Island.  In his spare time he enjoys, time with his family, charitable and volunteer activity and a little golf.

In addition to the 190-room Daufuskie Island Resort & Spa, Tiburon Hospitality Management also manages the 360-room Carefree Resort & Villas in Carefree, Ariz., and the 254-room Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch, N.J.
