American Hotel & Lodging Association

Santa Barbara, California -- August 1, 2003 - Tim Bridwell, CHA, General Manager and Mousa Tayyeb, Director of Guest Services at Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort have both been honored as "Stars of the Industry" by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA). Only nine lodging industry employees are honored annually for "exceptional service and accomplishments"; selected by nominations from AH&LA members representing some 11,000 hotels throughout the United States.

Mousa Tayyeb was named "Outstanding Manager of the Year-Large Property" for his uncompromising devotion and passion for exemplary customer service. Tayyeb is well known for his signature greeting "At your service" and his uncanny ability to remember guest names years later. He has been with Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort since its opening in 1986 (when it was known as the Red Lion). He supervises a staff of 12 including bell captains, shuttle drivers and valets. A native of Jordan, Tayyeb began his lodging industry career working in a five-star hotel storeroom in Amman. After immigrating to California with his family, he worked at the Red

Lion Sacramento in housekeeping, room service and guest services. Over his career, he has been honored with numerous awards including Hilton Hotel's President's Star Award. When the Volvo's president hosted 600 journalists at the Resort in 1997, he was so impressed with Tayyeb that he flew him to Sweden to address his executives on the essential nature of good service. 

Tim Bridwell, CHA, was named "Outstanding General Manager of the Year-Large Property" for his accomplishments at the Resort, in the community and the industry. He has been at the helm of the Resort since 1994, an unprecedented length of service in executive lodging management. His participative leadership style with more than 400 employees has resulted in low staff turnover rates, increased guest loyalty scores and higher profitability levels. Bridwell began his career as a Hilton Hotel room service waiter almost 30 years ago after graduating from Lynchburg College in Virginia. He progressed through the ranks and attained his first General Manager position at the Strater Hotel in Durango, Colorado. He joined Red Lion Hotels in 1986 and specialized in opening new facilities. Bridwell has been active in the California Hotel & Lodging Association, served as president in 1999 and currently represents California as a director on the national board of AH&LA. Locally, Bridwell has also served as an officer/director of the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Santa Barbara Lodging Association. Currently, Bridwell serves as a cabinet chair for the Santa Barbara United Way and is 2003-04 president of the board of the Santa Barbara Conference & Visitors Bureau.

Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort is the city of Santa Barbara's largest lodging property, offering 360 guest rooms and suites on 23 ocean-facing acres. Guest facilities include heated outdoor swimming pool, whirlpool, fitness suite, spa, beauty salon, gift shop, putting green, tennis and basketball courts, bicycle & skate rentals, business center and 50,000 square feet of meeting & event space. The Resort has been welcoming and satisfying guests since 1986.
