Conference and Corporate Meeting Destination
.
Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa Receives Provisional Acceptance
by the IACC; Slated to Open June 2004

LA JOLLA, Calif., - (August 26, 2003) Currently under development, the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa will soon become one of La Jolla's consummate settings for conferences and corporate meetings.  The International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) presented the property with provisional acceptance of its plans in fulfilling the IACC¹s gold standard criteria, a list of stringent requirements for conference centers.

Formerly the historic Black Family Horse Farm, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is located across the street from UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College and adjacent to the renowned Salk Institute.

Designed by Hill Glazer Architects, the hotel and conference center will highlight the traditional California coastal rancho setting and will be composed of a series of low-rise adobe structures with arched doorways and clay tile roofs.  Wood lintels, exposed rafters, wrought iron, thick plaster walls and other traditional materials will be used to complete the rancho-style surroundings and pay tribute to the rich history of this unique property.  Interior Design firm, Babey Moulton Jue & Booth integrates a collection of furnishings and imagery consistent with the rancho environment while adding a warmth and comfort attractive to the traveling business professional.

Scheduled to open June 2004, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa will offer 210 rooms and a state-of-the-art Learning Retreat complete with 25,000 square feet of interior conference space.  Open-air loggias, outdoor courts, and gardens will border conference rooms and facilities for optimal views and aesthetic appeal. Other planned amenities including a 6,000 square foot ballroom, a variety of multifunctional auditoriums and conference rooms, a 125-seat amphitheater, indoor and outdoor pre-function areas, permanent break stations, a high-tech business center and a dedicated meeting planner¹s office, are earning Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa a reputation as a comprehensive meeting and conference destination, as well as a luxurious and sought-after leisure hotel.

The property¹s Learning Retreat will offer the latest in technological features catering to a wide-range of industries including those in the academic, science, technology and corporate areas.  Featuring a single network system throughout guest and public areas, high-speed Internet access, CAT 5-e and wireless communication, a fiber optic connection to the University of California San Diego, and fully-equipped A/V systems, the Learning Retreat is designed to accommodate every need of the corporate traveler.

Lowe Enterprises, a national real estate investment, management and development firm, and Destination Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Lowe Enterprises, were selected by UCSD to develop and manage the conference center hotel. "After an extensive and thorough review of candidates, Lowe Enterprises and Destination Hotels & Resorts clearly demonstrated that they were the best team to develop and manage this  state-of-the-art conference facility," said Nancy Kossan, Director of Real Estate Development for UCSD.

Charles Peck, President and Chief Operating Officer for Destination Hotels & Resorts, points to the company's proven track record with other regional Destination properties. "Like the Hotel del Coronado and L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa, the hotel being built on the Black Family La Jolla Stables site will provide La Jolla/San Diego a unique alternative - a full-service hotel and conference center exemplifying the lifestyle of a classic California Rancho," he said.

Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is one of 26 independent, upscale and luxury hotels, resorts and golf clubs in the United States managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts (DH&R), a privately held company located in Englewood, Colorado.  Destination Hotels & Resorts and Lowe Enterprises, a national real estate investment, management and development firm, were selected by UCSD to develop and manage the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa.
