Ab Echenberg Named the Certified Hospitality
Technology Professional (CHTP) of the Year
May 29, 2003, AUSTIN, TEXAS - Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP(r)) is proud to name Ab Echenberg, CHAE, CHTP, as the 2003 CHTP of the Year.  Echenberg will be honored at the HITEC 2003 Opening Session on Tuesday, June 24. The award is attributed to the individual who scored the highest score for the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) exam in a given year. Acknowledged worldwide, the CHTP certification elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry by helping set standards for the field. Those who earn the CHTP designation demonstrate a high level of dedication to their profession.

"As a financial controller and consultant, the CHTP designation shows people the strength of my qualifications and dedication to my profession," said Echenberg.

Echenberg is the financial controller of PMA Canada Ltd., as well as president of AME Consulting services. He has been a very active member of HFTP for over 20 years. He has served as a director on HFTP's International Board, is currently a director of the HFTP Toronto chapter, and is a past-president of the same chapter. He is also a member of the HFTP Communications Editorial Advisory council, a past-chair of the same council, and a frequent contributor to HFTP's bi-monthly journal, The Bottomline.

"During the past year the certification process and exam have been signficantly revised in order to better identify those individuals that are truly hospitality technology professionals" stated Brian Garavuso, chair of the CHTP advisory council and chief technology officer for Interstate Hotels and Resorts.

To earn the CHTP designation, applicants must pass a 250-question exam covering technology concepts; specific hotel systems (i.e. PMS); systems rooted in other industries but also used in the hospitality sector (i.e. the Internet); and general hotel management practices. The candidate should also possess a basic knowledge of hotel accounting, be familiar with procedures relating to risk management, know the basics of sales management procedures as it relates to sales management systems, and understand the workings of telephone revenue accounting and facility management systems. Reviews and exams are conducted nationally throughout the year.
