San Jose Marriott Contracts with Chef Michael Mina to
Own, Operate World-class Restaurant

SAN FRANCISCO (March 23, 2003) Internationally acclaimed chef Michael Mina has announced the opening of Arcadia, his new South Bay restaurant that promises to become one of San Joses premier dining establishments.  Arcadia is Minas first Bay Area restaurant since leaving Aqua in San Francisco, and precedes the opening of his new signature San Francisco restaurant, details of which will be announced shortly.  The 130-seat Arcadia is located in San Joses vibrant downtown area, next to the McEnery Convention Center in the new Marriott Hotel, and is scheduled to open on Tuesday, April 29, 2003; the hotel will open on April 15.

Arcadia will feature all of the components for which Chef Michael Mina and the Mina Group restaurants are renowned creative, world-class cuisine; fresh, high-quality ingredients; excellent service; meticulous attention to detail; and a casual yet elegant

dining environment.  Chef Mina describes the menu he has designed for Arcadia as modern, innovative twists on classic American dishes.  Of particular note is the lunch menu, allowing guests to select from an assortment of ingredients for salads, accompanied by a daily presentation of soups and finger sandwiches.

In addition to the regular menu, a centrally-located shellfish display will feature an extensive assortment of crab, lobster, shrimp, littleneck clams and a variety of oysters.  Yet another Arcadia highlight is the chef's signature selection, a slow roasted prime rib of beef, prepared for parties of four or more and available only by advance order.

Mina also announced the appointment of Matt DeLosso as Arcadias executive chef.  A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, DeLossos career has included positions at the Four Seasons Hotels five-star, five-diamond Fountain Restaurant in Philadelphia, followed by an extended tenure working under Chef Mina at Aqua in San Francisco, first as sous chef and then as corporate sous chef for several restaurants under Minas culinary management.  Its always a pleasure to reward a talented young chef with a kitchen of his own to run, said Mina.  I have every confidence that Matt will execute Arcadias unique menu to perfection.

The focal point of Arcadia is the centrally located kitchen and bread oven.  Guests will enjoy the delicious aromas and flavors of warm bread throughout their dining experience as servers whisk the fresh-baked bread straight from the oven to diners tables.  The distinctive open kitchen design, virtually removing all barriers between the food preparation and dining areas, allows guests to observe the chefs in action, orchestrating meals from start to finish.  Taking the concept one step further, the prep line faces the dining room, erasing the line between kitchen staff and diners and encouraging interaction between them.

Sommelier Rajat Parr, wine director for the Mina Group, has hand-selected a wine list that focuses primarily on boutique wines from America with an emphasis on local labels from areas as diverse as the Santa Cruz Mountains, Napa, Sonoma and Monterey counties.  Also represented are new and exciting appellations such as Washington State, Spain, Austria and New Zealand, complemented by a variety of classic selections from France and Germany.

Arcadia is managed and operated by the Mina Group with Chef Michael Mina overseeing the culinary operations.  The Mina Group also manages and operates NOBHILL in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Michael Mina serves as the managing chef of Aqua in the Bellagio, also in Las Vegas.

Arcadia is the first of two Mina Group properties scheduled to open in 2003; a new Mina Group restaurant will open in the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas this fall.  Michaels signature restaurant in San Francisco is slated  to open early in 2004.

Arcadia, accessible from the hotel as well as through its own entrance at 301 South Market Street, will be open daily to serve Marriott Hotel guests and the general public, including locals and day visitors to the downtown San Jose area.

The first new hotel constructed in downtown San Jose in 10 years -- and connected to the popular, 425,000-square-foot San Jose McEnery Convention Center -- the 506-room, 28-story San Jose Marriott is scheduled to open April 15.  Amenities of the 430,000-square-foot luxury business hotel include 16 meeting rooms with 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, a fitness center with outdoor pool and spa, underground valet parking, concierge level, the full-service signature restaurant and bar Arcadia, a café, and much more.
