in Palm Springs, California; Formerly Merv Griffins Resort Hotel |
January
27, 2003 - Home to Hollywood stars, corporate executives and travelers
looking for a restorative retreat, the former Merv Griffin Resort Hotel
has re-opened as the Givenchy Resort & Spa, under new ownership and
the management of Tarsadia Hotels of Costa Mesa.
"We believe it is the premier resort in Palm Springs, and one known worldwide, not just because of its past associations with star owners such as Gene Autry and Merv Griffin, but because of its unique design and association with the incredible Givenchy brand," explained Pat Patel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Tarsadia. With just 104 rooms on 14 acres, the Givenchy Resort & Spa offers a spacious retreat in a beautiful setting amidst rose gardens, an extensive citrus orchard and flowering bougainvillea throughout the grounds. The resort has been "freshened up" with new lobby decor featuring a cheerful shade of yellow which draws the eye through to the citrus trees in the garden. Heavy rugs have been removed to reveal the original stone flooring, and bright, contemporary art adorns the walls. "We have worked to integrate the beautiful grounds into our buildings with an abundance of greenery and soothing colors," explains General Manager Dave Watson. "And with the physical changes comes a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. We've assembled a very talented staff that is very eager to please by paying attention to even the smallest detail." One of those small details are the attendants on bicycles featuring bright blue trays delivering room service requests, a delightful sight reminiscent of resorts of yesteryear. If a guest opts to leave his or her very comfortable room, the new restaurant, La Terrasse, features a light French/California fusion cuisine, with the option to dine indoors or on the terrace. Chef Steve Evanstad, formerly with the Four Seasons, brings an exemplary background in pleasing palates. Ranked one of the top ten spas fours years in a row by Conde Nast Traveler, the Givenchy Spa, a 22,000 square foot retreat, offers separate facilities for women and men. The wide spectrum of services includes massage, facial, body and hydrotherapy sessions, plus a selection of Givenchy's signature contouring and revitalizing treatments and beauty services. The adjacent Boutique carries exclusive Givenchy products and Resort-logoed items. Beyond the Spa, other activities at the Resort include tennis and swimming, as well as yoga, Tai Chi and power walking. Indoors, the fitness center, sauna, steam room and aqua-gym offer additional options. The resort also features more than 9,500 square feet of indoor meeting/banquet space and 30,000 square feet of outdoor space, making it an ideal location to accommodate groups from 10 to 500. The garden is a stunning setting for weddings and private parties, and the Grand Suite an ideal location for corporate retreats. Studies have shown that a balance of physical and mental rejuvenation can be the key to focusing on important issues -- and no place integrates them more sublimely than the Givenchy Resort & Spa. |
