Kevin Labang Named Director of Food & Beverage
at OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort
KEAUHOU, HAWAII - Sept 30, 2002 - General Manager Wayne Sterling is pleased to announce that Kevin Labang has joined the OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort as Director of Food & Beverage.

In his position, Labang is responsible for the overall operation of the resort's food and beverage outlets, which include the Kamaaina Terrace, Veranda Lounge and Kalanikai Bar & Grill, as well as banquet services.

Labang has over 20 years of experience in food and beverage and restaurant operations, most recently as Banquet Manager at the four-star Orchid at Mauna Lani Hotel on Hawaii's Big Island. He also spent a year and a half as Coast Grille Manager at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, another deluxe Big Island property.

Labang began his career in hotel food and beverage at the Hawaiian Regent Hotel in Waikiki where he honed his skills in the stewarding department before moving into restaurant management. Throughout his 15 years with the Hawaiian Regent, he was in charge of the Summery Restaurant, Café Regent and Tiffany Steakhouse, as well as the hotel's room service department.  Following the Hawaiian Regent, Labang joined the Ala Moana Hotel where he spent 18 months overseeing both the Plantation Café and the hotel's room service department.

"It was satisfying to find someone with Kevin's extensive background in food and beverage operations and restaurant management to oversee our food and beverage department," said general manager Wayne Sterling.

The OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort sits directly on the ocean along the Big Island's Kona Coast. There are 311 guest rooms, a day spa, ocean view fitness room, oceanfront restaurant and bar, swimming pool, six tennis courts and three large outdoor function areas. Kahaluu Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling beaches on the island, is adjacent to the hotel.

This 10-acre property has a rich cultural heritage. The land was once home to a large, thriving ancient Hawaiian community. The remains of two ancient heiau (Hawaiian temple), a canoe landing and petroglyphs made by the earliest Polynesian voyagers to Hawaii can be found at the resort. A more recent addition to the property is the replica of King David Kalakaua's summer home of the late 1800s.

The hotel is operated by OHANA Hotels & Resorts, a division of Outrigger Enterprises, Inc., the largest locally owned lodging company in Hawaii and one of the fastest growing lodging companies in the Pacific. Under its two hotel brands - Outrigger Hotels & Resorts and OHANA Hotels & Resorts - the company currently operates or has under development 46 hotels and resorts throughout the Pacific Region, representing more than 12,000 hotel rooms and condominium units in Hawaii, Micronesia, Australia and the South Pacific.  Outrigger's affiliate, Outrigger Lodging Services, operates nearly two-dozen hotels and resorts throughout the U.S. Mainland.
