Cold Weather Turndown Service at St. Louis Hotel
Includes a Hot Water Bottle
October 31, 2002 - "Do you really want to eat a chocolate before going to bed, especially after brushing your teeth," asks Micarl Hill, general manager of Clayton on the Park, the 213-suite luxury hotel and residence in Clayton. He's referring to the typical touch added to the turndown service at most luxury hotels.

He thinks not. So he's initiating a cold weather turndown service at his hotel, which features a hot water bottle enclosed in soft cotton flannel fabric and secured with a bow. The cotton flannel-enclosed hot water bottle is placed on a guest's bed pillow when the hotel suite attendant turns down the bed.

A note from the hotel accompanies the turn down service and reads, "Clayton on the Park believes that warm sheets and a comfortable bed are the beginning of a good night's sleep. Sleep well and pleasant dreams."

"The response to date has been very positive," says Hill. "Our guests love the personal touch and the TLC. We do everything we can to make their stay a residential experience short of tucking them in."

Hill ordered the hot water bottles from Martha Stewart Living but had his mother-in-law make up the cotton flannel covers for same. "We're not quite a cottage industry but its just another homey touch we feel our guests will enjoy," Hill continues.

The cotton flannel hot water bottle covers come in two different colorful patterns plus a whimsical pattern for toddlers and babies. The latter are used in conjunction with baby blankets and white cribs the hotel has special ordered.

The Clayton on the Park mixed-use residential complex is a new concept in cosmopolitan living for St. Louis. Hotel suites co-exist with luxury apartments and corporate suites, all carefully designed to cater to the needs of their respective clientele, while allowing for crossover services - apartment and corporate suite residents who want hotel amenities and hotel guests who desire a more residential setting.

As Hill puts it, "We meet the needs of those who want a residence for a day, a month or a year."
