Millennium & Copthorne Open The Millennium Hotel Sharjah; Sherif Ibrahim Aly Mekhemer Appointed General Manager


Sharjah UAE - December 28, 2002 - The Millennium Hotel Sharjah, Millennium Hotels and Resorts� second venture in the United Arab Emirates, opens its doors to the public at 1200 hours on 28 December 2002 as part of its soft opening launch. Located on Corniche Road overlooking Khalid Lagoon, this hotel�s modern exterior of mirrored glass makes a striking impact on the natural surroundings of the lagoon. Conveniently located, the hotel is within easy access to the city centre and the airport, and just ten minutes drive from Dubai. 

Behind the launch of this new property is Egyptian born, Sherif Ibrahim Aly Mekhemer, who has been appointed General Manager. Sherif joins the Group from his previous position as Corporate Manager � Hospitality Division for the Dubai world Trade Centre. Prior to that, he was the General Manager for the Hilton Corniche Residence (Abu Dhabi), and has also held other senior managerial positions with Hilton in Dubai and Cairo. 

With guest facilities including 259 luxurious guest rooms - of which 43 are suites and 20 are studios; a magnificent Grand Ballroom and a diverse range of culinary options, the Millennium Hotel is well positioned to be Sharjah premier 5-star business lifestyle Hotel. Catering for both corporate and leisure travellers alike, the Hotel�s distinctively warm and welcoming ambience will assure you of the refined service and impeccable traditional Middle Eastern hospitality to follow.

Selected guest room floors, as well two restaurants, form part of the opening. Set out in clean, contemporary lines, each guestroom is stylishly furnished, complete with a long bath and shower, satellite TV, electronic safe, IDD telephone & voicemail, computer & facsimile data ports, hair dryer and mini bar. Suites and studios feature add-on benefits such as the trouser press and facsimile machine. 

On level 1, banquet operations with dedicated meetings & events facilities will be operational by the first week of January. Divisible into 3 rooms, the Grand Ballroom with its crystal chandeliers and sheer sophistication makes for an elegant venue for gala dinners or wedding banquets. A Business Centre features a private office for guests� use whilst providing secretarial support and other services such as colour photocopying and Internet facilities.

On dining, the Millennium Hotel Sharjah sets the stage for gastronomic delights with a variety of cuisines, all well complemented by classic entertainment. Located at the Lobby level, both Citrus café and the Al Dallah tea lounge is set to welcome new customers on 28 December on a discovery of delicate International flavours in a casual, yet refreshing setting. 

Shiraz, the Iranian restaurant and Mojo, the Seafood restaurant is scheduled to open at the end of February. Oozing an authentic and uniquely Persian feel throughout, Shiraz revolves around the interplay of spaces and themes to differentiate the Iranian experience with wonderful views overlooking Khalid Lagoon. The atmosphere is warm and inviting; the décor dramatic; and the cuisine, purely Iranian. Best described as smart and eclectic, with strong contrasts and sleek lines, Mojo offers a fusion of the Pacific Rim and Eastern Mediterranean, featuring an extensive menu featuring fresh seafood and sushi to order. 

Other guest facilities include Le Club Health & Fitness which is due to open on the first week of January. Le Club features separate health clubs for men and women, three pools including one adult pool, one family pool and a children�s pool; a fully equipped gymnasium and a squash court.
