The Renaissance Miami Biscayne Bay Hotel $12 million
Renovation Capitalizes on Miami's
Performing Arts District
MIAMI, FL --2 Dec 2002 - The Renaissance Miami Biscayne Bay Hotel, located in downtown Miami, has launched a $12 million renovation program led by Atlanta-based Ai Group, to position the hotel to take advantage of the renaissance of the area as a performing arts district in Miami. The renovation program will be completed in phases to minimize the impact on the hotel guests. The first phase will include 370 guest rooms, guest room corridors, the front entrance and motor lobby, the hotel lobby, the restaurant, the International and Florida Ballrooms, the ballroom lobby and porte-cochere arrival area.

"As a hotelier, I never thought I would be pleased to be surrounded by construction!" said Richard Morse, general manager. "With the Performing Arts Center underway and the changes taking place in the former mall space, we are excited about the renaissance that is taking place all around us.  Our renovation, which incorporates references to the arts, will position us to capitalize on Miami's newest destination -- a world-class performing arts district overlooking Biscayne Bay."

The guest rooms will be redesigned in a contemporary Floridian palette with new carpeting, bed linens and duvet covers in the colors of South Florida's vivid sunsets -- purple and gold, lime and rustic orange. Designed in an expanse of deep green broken by a pattern of small gold dots, the new custom-designed Couristan carpeting provides the perfect backdrop for the room's vibrant color scheme. The bed becomes the centerpiece of each room, with a dramatic head wall of dark red wall covering centered by a large wood-framed headboard with a padded fabric inset.  New lamps in pewter will offset the existing blonde wood furniture.  Artwork will consist of color photographs depicting performing arts scenes; a whirling flamenco skirt or dancers in motion.  Bathrooms will receive new vanity lighting, towel display areas, floor tiles and a sheer shower curtain in a complementary pattern to the bedroom.

Custom carpeting has been designed for the guest room corridors taking inspiration from the music and dance influences of the performing arts. New wall coverings will reflect the hotel's ocean view with a sand colored wave pattern punctuated by theatrical black and white photographs of music legends. Sand dollar shaped mirrors and glass console tables supported by "coral branches" sculpted in dark metal will grace the focal points of each hallway. Guest room signage will be fashioned out of textured "sea glass" in pastel blues and greens.

The front entrance and motor lobby will feature a dramatic new awning with signage to create a sense of arrival on the city's main thoroughfare, Biscayne Boulevard. Guests arriving to valet their cars will be greeted by floor-to-ceiling acrylic cones lined with Xorel fabric in pastel blues and greens, which will be backlit at night for dramatic effect. Abstract art sculptures and a bellmans desk of blue sea glass topped with brushed silver metallic will complete this thoroughly modern space.  As the elevator doors open onto the hotels main lobby, guests will step into a world of bright colors offset by comfortable seating areas and original art. The custom carpeting will feature a musical note border graced by new wedge shaped chairs.

The International and Florida Ballrooms will feature sand colored vinyl wall coverings and colored glass wall sconces, with custom designed carpeting in an eclectic mix of musical patterns in deep blue, green, rust and orange. An accent drapery on one wall of the International Ballroom will be lit for dramatic effect, giving this large space a more intimate feel.  The ballroom-level arrival experience will be enhanced with an upgraded porte-cochere, new paint and potted plants.

The restaurant, which will be renamed Brisa Bistro, will blend Floridas casual inviting atmosphere translated in a color scheme of greens, blues and sunset hues. The curved entry wall will be constructed of a wavy-patterned metal in rustic orange, offsetting custom carpeting in an underwater scheme comprised of abstract patterns of bright green and blue with hints of orange and red. The buffet area will feature a dramatic custom-lighting feature - a copper mesh cylinder approximately 4-1/2 feet in diameter, copper and onyx counter tops accented with creamy marble and acrylic, and porcelain floor tiles. Custom chairs, wall sconces and window treatments will reflect the warm colors and relaxed comfort of the design scheme.  Whether located in restored landmark buildings or newly built properties, Renaissance Hotels, Resorts and Suites brand works closely with its owners and franchisees to ensure that each Renaissance hotel offers a warm and timeless design.
