Noble House Hotels and Resorts Renovating
The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club,
Redondo Beach, CA

REDONDO BEACH, CALIF. - (December 3, 2002) - The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club, the only waterfront hotel in Redondo Beach, announces the start of a renovation project, which began November 18, 2002. The renovation seeks to upgrade the property while maintaining the charm and beauty of the landmark hotel, which remains a South Bay favorite for guests and locals alike.  The renovation will include the remodeling of primary guest areas such as the lobby and registration, guestrooms, and corridors. Outdoor enhancements include the addition of an oceanfront ceremony site.

The first phase of renovation includes the remodeling of the living room lobby and registration area, featuring beautiful new furnishings in sage, eggplant, and earth tone colors, new carpeting, all new light fixtures including ornate crystal chandeliers hung from the three-story ceiling, and new wall treatments. The guest registration area will feature all new buckskin-colored flagstone floors, the expansion of the desk check-in area, and new sitting area. The new lobby furnishings are already in place, and the remaining renovations are scheduled to be complete by the end of December 2002.

"The living room lobby is designed with guest comfort and pure relaxation in mind," comments Glenn Bishop, general manager of The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club. "We will create a haven for guests of the hotel and local residents alike to experience and enjoy the Southern California lifestyle."

The second phase, which will begin in January 2003, includes new coverlets and artwork in all 163 guestrooms. Additionally, the ocean view guestrooms will receive new drapery and armoires with 32" color televisions. The hotel corridors will undergo a transformation including new carpeting, a combination of new wallpaper and paint, and new crystal light fixtures. This phase is due to be completed by May 2003.

The addition of an outdoor ceremony site will be implemented adjacent to the hotel conference center, overlooking the Pacific Ocean to better accommodate the volume of weddings hosted each year.

Originally opened as The Portofino Inn in 1962, the hotel was purchased by Noble House Hotels and Resorts in 1986. Noble House began a major renovation to restore the charm and beauty to the popular oceanfront property. On January 18, 1988, the storm of the century hit the Southern California coastline with waves charted at 25-feet that crashed over the breakwater and into the hotel's three-story glass atrium lobby and first floor guestrooms.  Alas, a second renovation began, and upon completion the property was renamed The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club. Additional enhancements over the past 14 years included the remodeling of the conference center (1999), as well as upgrades to hotel guestrooms (1994 to 1996).

The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club features 163 comfortable guestrooms with sweeping views of the ocean and marina, a relaxing living room lobby featuring nightly entertainment by guitarist Keith Chegall, outdoor heated swimming pool and whirlpool, and a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel is a proud recipient of the 2002 Waste Reduction Award Program (WRAP) of the Year, which is given out by the California Integrated Waste Management Board to the top ten businesses that serve as waste management models to the rest of the industries and the State of California.

The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club is located at 260 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
