Sweeps Top Honors Maundays Bay, Anguilla (December 2, 2002) - Cap Juluca's General Manager, Eustace Guishard, was named 2002 Hotelier of the Year by the Anguilla Hotel & Tourism Association/Anguilla Tourist Board. At the same ceremony, Travis Simpson of guest services at Cap Juluca, was awarded Employee of the Year, giving the hotel a sweep of the top honors. "On behalf of Travis and myself, we are extremely honored to receive these high recognitions," said Guishard. "The distinction given Travis, who has an excellent attitude and is extremely versatile and flexible, epitomizes the top-notch team we have at Cap Juluca," he added. A part of Cap Juluca's original development team, Eustace Guishard personifies the term "man of many talents." An Anguillian hotelier with 20 years of industry experience, "Guish," as he's affectionately known, has held a wide variety of management positions within the luxury resort, from operations to guest services. He is also an accomplished restaurateur: Koal Keel restaurant, which he opened in 1989 with two partners, is among Anguilla's most popular. Educated in hotel management at Cornell University
and Bahamas Hotel College, Guishard began his hospitality industry career
in 1977 at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel on the island of St. Kitts, where
he was social director,
He joined Cap Juluca in 1986 as part of the original development team, which also included Robin Ricketts. He served the resort in a variety of management positions beginning as the food and beverage manager and later being named guest services manager, operations manager and, in 1994, resident manager. From 1989 to 1992, Guishard took a leave of absence to open Koal Keel restaurant and Cliffside Wines & Spirits with Cap Juluca co-workers George Reid, now the resort's executive chef, and Irad Gumbs, who is presently Cap Juluca's restaurant manager for George's. He returned to Cap Juluca in 1992 and, in 1998, was named general manager by Dion Friedland, chairman of the board of Cap Juluca. Simpson, who joined Cap Juluca in 1998, is 22 and worked summers in the maintenance and landscaping departments. After a brief stint in food and beverage, he transferred to guest services in November 2001. On occasion, he still assists in maintenance and teaches croquet to hotel guests. Simpson was Cap Juluca's Employee of the Year for 2001/2002. |
