Three Renaissance Hotels in Florida Complete $30 Million
In Capital Improvements In 2002
MIAMI -- Sept. 26, 2002-- Renaissance Hotels Florida, a new cooperative sales and marketing alliance to market the brand to both business and leisure travelers visiting Florida, announced planned renovations and refurbishments at three of its resorts, Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach; Renaissance Miami-Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami; and Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg. Together, these capital improvements represent $30 million in Florida for 2002. With the escalating growth of the brand within the state, this number is expected to rise next year.

Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa began a second phase of renovations after its 1999 restoration restored its original luster.  This year, a $14 million renovation program is underway that includes a re-design of the resort's meeting space, fine dining and casual dining restaurants, and pool areas. The renovation, which is slated for completion by December 2002, involves three design firms: Spillis Candela DMJM, the architect that handled the 1999 restoration, is redesigning the hotel's meeting space and ballrooms; New York-based Arnold Syrop & Associates is creating a new casual dining experience overlooking the ocean; and Eco Plan is handling the two pool areas, including a complete re-design of the main pool area with dramatic lighting, sound systems, landscaping and the addition of two hot tubs.

Renaissance Miami Biscayne Bay Hotel has launched a $12 million renovation led by Atlanta-based Ai Group. The design scheme reflects the area's revitalization as a performing arts destination incorporating references to music, theater, works of art, and sculpture. The renovation includes the renovation of 370 guest rooms, the guest room corridors, hotel lobby, casual dining restaurant, International and Florida Ballrooms, ballroom lobby and porte-cochere arrival area. A complete redesign of the hotel's front entrance and motor lobby will create a dramatic new sense of arrival at street level - something that the hotel has needed to differentiate itself from the attached retail space. Renovations are scheduled for completion by January 2003.

Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club is in the process of completing a $3.6-million refurbishment project as part of its ten-year anniversary of the hotel's historic restoration and grand re-opening in 1992. The Vinoy is currently refurbishing all 360 guest rooms and suites with new carpet, furnishings, bedding, artwork and drapes. New lighting, carpeting and wall coverings will transform the resort's corridors. Award winning interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates is overseeing the refurbishment, which is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2002.

The fourth hotel in the Renaissance Hotels Florida family is Renaissance Orlando Resort at SeaWorld, which expects to initiate capital improvements in late 2003.

"This major capital improvement plan reinforces the commitment that Renaissance as a brand and its parent company, Marriott, have to ensure the hotels provide the best service, amenities and experience possible for our business and leisure travelers," said Randy Griffin, Area Director of Sales & Marketing, Renaissance Hotels Florida. "Renaissance is a place where our highest purpose is to bring out the human spirit of the frequent traveler, offer a welcoming ambiance and anticipate even their unexpected needs.  Each hotel's design and amenities incorporate local influences so that guests can experience the real essence of Florida."

Renaissance Hotels Florida, a new concept for the brand, differs from other centralized sales office programs because each of the group's sales managers is empowered to handle clients from initial query to completion of the booking on behalf of all participating hotels, handling both groups and leisure travelers in one efficient transaction. Aside from the obvious benefits of cross-selling the properties more efficiently and increasing bookings while reducing costs, it allows the customer to access a diverse collection of full service hotels and resorts throughout Florida through one contact point. The group currently includes four of the nine Renaissance Hotels, Resorts & Suites in Florida with plans to add the other hotels in the future.

Renaissance Hotels, Resorts and Suites is an upscale and sophisticated lodging brand designed to enhance guests' enjoyment and productivity. Travelers can expect stylish, comfortable environments, contemporary restaurants and attentive service.  Renaissance hotels participate in Marriott's award-winning frequent travel program, Marriott Rewards(R).

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL, INC. (NYSE:MAR), a leading worldwide hospitality company celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2002, has nearly 2,600 operating units in the United States and 64 other countries and territories.
