Wireless High-Speed Internet! |
| ATLANTA, GA – July 9, 2002 – StayOnline, one of the fastest growing
high-speed Internet providers in the hospitality industry, announced it
has signed an agreement with Innkeepers Hospitality, Inc. of Palm Beach,
FL, the largest independent management company serving the upscale extended
stay hotel segment in the United States, to launch a program of wireless
high-speed Internet access and in-room computers in guest and meeting rooms
at selected hotels throughout the country. Installations at various
InnKeepers’ properties have already begun.
Innkeepers Hospitality, Inc. is a national hotel management company with an established reputation and expertise in managing upscale extended stay and limited service properties. Innkeepers Hospitality manages more than 40 hotels, including such brands as Residence Inn by Marriott, Hampton Inn and Courtyard by Marriott. Provided by StayOnline, the new SuiteOnlinetm wireless service will give guests access to the information superhighway at speeds up to 200 times faster than conventional modems allow. Guests at Innkeepers’ properties will have high-speed Internet access in the comfort, privacy and convenience of their hotel rooms, plus multi-user meeting room Internet access – as well as unlimited mobility throughout each property thanks to the wireless access network. In addition, for guests who choose not to carry their own laptop computers, select rooms at each hotel will be equipped with in-room computers and monitors to allow high-speed access from desktop terminals. Twenty percent of the rooms at selected properties will feature the in-room PCs. “Our guests will appreciate the freedom and mobility of high-speed wireless Internet access from anywhere throughout our hotels,” said Jeffrey H. Fisher, Chief Executive Officer & President of Innkeepers Hospitality, Inc. “And for people who are staying with us one, two, three or even four weeks at a time, whether on extended business stays or on vacation, the concept of having an in-room computer in addition to a standard television is simply irresistible!" “Importantly,” he added, “the new service allows guests to surf the Internet, talk on the telephone and watch television all at the same time. And the high-speed Internet connections are ‘always on’ – meaning no lost connections, busy signals or ‘goodbyes’ common to older dial-up modem connections.” The StayOnline system provides guest access through the in-room computers and through Plug & Play wireless EZAir® devices for travelers’ laptops. For guests, this means there is no configuration or reconfiguration required either before or after they attain their high-speed Internet access. The wireless system uses second-generation antenna technology, Microsoft NT Embedded based Wyse Thin Client computers, and is powered by StayOnline’s proprietary GuestPasssm Server Solution. Guests using the system are greeted by a customized opening page offering links to local entertainment and information pages, popular US and international news portals, travel reservations and others – all at no charge! When guests decide to visit a site not listed in the free section, they are greeted with a screen offering them alternative billing options. “We’ve brought together the best of the best and constructed a wireless environment second to none,” said Antonio DiMilia, president of StayOnline. “With the EZAir® antenna, a guest with a laptop that is Ethernet enabled can be surfing in a matter of minutes, anywhere in the hotel, with out having to reconfigure their system or load new software. For the traveler who chooses not to carry their laptop, we’re providing rooms equipped with wireless enabled computers. It is truly a user-friendly network.” High-speed Internet access will be active in initial properties by September 1, 2002. “These locations were selected to provide us with a true cross section of the country, and to enable us to evaluate guest reaction, usage and acceptance in different geographic regions, and among properties with diverse customer profiles with both business and leisure travelers,” said Mr. Fisher. “After an initial evaluation period, our intent is to establish a timeframe for expansion to other properties as quickly as possible.” Locations scheduled to receive the new service include properties in California, Washington, Texas, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia and Florida.
