Royal Spa at Le Royal Meridien Bahrain
Pays Homage to Thalassotherapy
DUBAI, July 2002: Bahrain was once thought to have been the Garden of Eden and The Royal Spa is certainly reminiscent of a place where the world, for a few hours at least, seems a simpler place.

Its not just the architectural elegance of the spa overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Arabian Gulf that take your breath away. The meticulous attention to detail, including fresh orchid petals scattered upon big fluffy towels and purifying oils scenting the air, stamps the spa as one of the finest in the world.

The stunning interior of The Royal Spa encompasses the essential element of water, which is widely known for its soothing properties both physical and mental. Water is a theme that echoes throughout, either flowing from fountains or trickling from concealed outlets.

But the piece de resistance is the homage to Thalassotherapy, defined by a large circular pool beneath a crystal dome. Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty, watches over guests as they stretch out on an underwater recliner and allow their tired bodies to be gently massaged by a series of multi jets to ease away aches and pains.

Thalasso is the Greek word for sea, and the legendary healing and restorative powers of minerals and vitamins found within the sea were used by the Greeks. Nowadays, the benefits can only be found in a handful of the worlds top health and beauty spas. Recognising that the combination of minerals, salts and water is similar to our own body fluids, the treatment boosts the lymphatic and circulatory systems which in turn helps to relieve muscular strains and spasms.

The Royal Spa offers an assortment of Thalassotherapy therapeutic treatments. Therapists offer a guiding eye while guests immerse themselves in the multi-jet pool for a massage, or relax in essential oils in a private marine hydrotherapy multi-jet bath. Other alternatives include an affusion massage from overhead shower sprays to pinpoint relevant body areas, or even a jet blitz massage by hand-held high pressure jet hose to attack cellulite and fatty tissues.

Alternative therapies are also catered for and feature reflexology, Thai massage, and remedial massage. But The Royal Spa is not only about the pampering of body and mind the in-house fitness experts will make guests work hard as well as providing diet and nutrition advice.

Using the latest computer technology a personal fitness assessment will ensure the right fitness programme for each guest or member. Whether its low impact aerobics, step, or body sculpting, The Royal Spas state-of-the-art gymnasium is fitted with all the latest equipment. For those who prefer to exercise in private, a personal trainer will offer guidance through an exclusively tailored workout in a designated area.

If the grind of the gym doesnt appeal, there are classes to suit all tastes, including classes to heal and strengthen mind, body, and soul. The Royal Spa also offers weight management programmes, specifically tailored for each body type based on diet, calorie intake and personal preferences, with a complementary fitness programme arranged with a personal trainer.
Sensitive to the cultural requirements of women in the Gulf, The Royal Spa has been specifically designed to respect the peace and privacy of women. Offering magnificent views of the hotels lush gardens and the Manama skyline, it is run entirely by female staff to ensure the well being and security of its members. However, The Royal Spa has opened its doors to allow males to enjoy selected treatments in the private VIP Suite.
