$12 Million in Renovations Strengthens Outrigger's
Position in Hawaii Condo Resort Market
HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII - In an effort to appeal to the emerging market of travelers who prefer the independence, value and convenience that condominium accommodations offer, over $12 million dollars has been spent in renovations and upgrades over the past two years at nine Hawaii condominium resorts managed by Outrigger Hotels & Resorts.

This investment in renovations is a strategic move on behalf of Hawaii's largest hotelier to position the Outrigger brand as the state's premiere provider of upscale beachfront condominium resorts. Renovations vary depending on property but include enhancements to public areas, landscaping, tennis courts, accommodation appointments, new telephone systems, silverware and music systems.

Currently, Outrigger has condominium properties in all of the prestigious resort communities on Oahu (Waikiki), Maui (Wailea, Kaanapali, Kahana and Napili), Kauai (Poipu and Kapaa) and Hawaii's Big Island (Kona). By upgrading and maintaining a superior product throughout public areas and accommodations, Outrigger hopes to establish itself as the brand of choice among long-term and non-first time visitors who want a quality, beachfront product.

Reservation booking trends indicate an increased demand for condominium resorts. Condominium on-line bookings are up more than 30% over last year, according to reports from Outrigger's central reservations office in Denver.

"We have seen a steady increase in the demand for quality condo accommodations," remarked T.J. Oesterling, Outrigger's vice president, condominium/resort division. "As today's travelers grow increasingly sophisticated and educated, they realize the exceptional value and convenience that condominium accommodations offer. This is especially true for families and long-term repeat visitors who are willing to trade off some of the amenities of a full service resort in exchange for a full kitchen, multiple bedrooms, washer and dryer and many other amenities without sacrificing beachfront location. At Outrigger, we are committed to offering only quality products to our guests."

Guests can be sure of consistent quality in all Outrigger Hawaiian condos due to strict standards that must be met before the company will manage a property. Only properties in the best locations and top physical condition are accepted into the rental pool. Each unit is inspected annually and those cited with improvement needs are given 60 days to comply or are removed from the pool.

In addition to daily maid service, all condo units have microwaves, coffee makers, televisions with cable programming, irons and ironing boards and personal safes, in addition to the standard appliances. Strict maintenance standards are enforced and all bedding and soft goods must be brand new upon entering the pool.

While travelers grow increasingly savvy, independent and demanding for quality, there is no substitute for the location of the property.  Outrigger's inventory of properties is located among the world's most beautiful beaches. There are two Outrigger beachfront condo resorts on Kauai-the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation Resort in sunny Poipu, where Hawaiian monk seals lounge on the sand, and the Lae nani Resort near the charming town of Kapaa, known for its white sand beaches. Maui boasts four Outrigger condo properties, all in the best locales: the Palms at Wailea, Maui Eldorado Resort in Kaanapali, the oceanfront Royal Kahana Resort and the ocenafront Napili Shores. The Big Island has two existing oceanfront condo resorts in Kona - the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff Resort and the Kanaloa at Kona, with a third property in Waikoloa nearing completion. There's only one condo property on Oahu, but it's a beauty-the Waikiki Shores Resort on Waikiki Beach. It has unobstructed views over Fort DeRussy Park of the Pacific ocean and magnificent sunsets.

Outrigger condominium resorts are operated by Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, a division of Hawaii-based Outrigger Enterprises, Inc., the largest lodging company in Hawaii and one of the fastest growing in the Pacific.
