  Successful Lodging Business leaders Granted the Distinguished
Alumni Award by The School of Hospitality Business,
Michigan State University
CHICAGO, IL � May 20 � Some of the lodging community�s most successful business leaders today were granted the Distinguished Alumni award by prestigious The School of Hospitality Business, Michigan State University (MSU), at a lavish Chicago ceremony, The School Director and Professor Ronald Cichy announced today.  Some of the award winners included such well- recognized names as 
  • Lou Weckstein, President, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc., 
  • Hans Desai, COO, Six Hats � A Hospitality Company and 
  • Jack DeBoer, Chairman, CEO, Candlewood Hotel Company.  
Presented as part of the Annual Gathering of Leaders celebration, the award recognizes distinguished leaders in the hospitality industry who have given time and talents back to The School.   

At the celebration Cichy said, �Today we are delighted to honor these alumni during our alma mater�s 75th Anniversary Year.  They studied and learned under remarkable faculty, and then went out and not only succeeded, but furthered MSU�s good name and reputation.  We thank them for giving back to their alma mater with his time, talents and treasures.� 

Hundreds of MSU Alumni traveled from around the world to attend the ceremony recognizing leaders in the hospitality industry.  Other award recipients include James B. Singerling, Chief Executive Officer of the Club Managers Association of America, who was awarded The School�s Industry Leader of the Year award, recognizing his exemplary leadership in the hospitality industry.  In addition, Donald I. Smith, noted restaurateur, professor and author, was named Honorary Alumnus of the Year, recognizing his leadership and contributions to further the interests of The School.

  • Jack DeBoer, Chairman, CEO, Candlewood Hotel Company, 
  • Paul Smith, President, Hitching Post Inn Resort & Conference Center, 
  • Lou Weckstein, President, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc., 
  • Judith Zehnder Keller, President, Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Lodge, 
  • James Anhut, Senior VP, Six Continents Hotels, 
  • Jay Dee Cutting, Senior Director of Franchise Development, Suburban Lodges/Guest House International, 
  • Michael Murray, Senior VP of Operations, SAGE Hospitality Resources, 
  • Roger William Borsink, VP, New York Market, Marriott International, 
  • Don Semmler, Sr. VP, Southeast Region, Marriott Corporation.
