Alfred Gorlick Named Hotelier Of The Year

January 15, 2002 - The Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) has named Alfred Gorlick, CHA, Vice President & General Manager of the Sheraton Grand Resort Paradise Island, Hotelier Of The Year for 2001.
    
Gorlick, who has operated the 340-room resort since 1994, was honored at a recent luncheon of the BHA where he was presented with a plaque that reads: "In recognition by your peers of your outstanding achievements in hotel management and for your relentless pursuit of excellence in performance and standards."

The award was presented by Ross McDonald, Vice President of the Royal Bank of Canada, sponsor of the event, and Barbara Hanna-Cox, President of the BHA, which began the awards program in 1987. Currently, there are 80 hotels that are members of the BHA.

"I consider this as the finest award I've ever received in my career," Gorlick said, "especially because of the acknowledgment and respect shown to me by my fellow hoteliers throughout The Bahamas." Gorlick has been the recipient of a number of other honors and awards in the hospitality industry.

Gorlick also had been General Manager of the 14-story property from 1981-1985 when it first opened. His distinguished career spans more than 30 years in the travel and tourism field, including management positions in Florida, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and New York. Gorlick is a Certified Hotel Administrator, went to the New York Hotel School where he graduated first in his class, and attended New York University.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Hotel Association;
Bahamas Hotel Association; Nassau/Paradise Island Promotion Board; Paradise Island Tourism Development Association; Bahamas Hotel Employer's Association; Florida Hotel and Motel Association; Greater Miami Hotel Association; Tampa Bay Hotel Association; and the St. Thomas/St. John Hotel Association.

Gorlick also is a member of Skal International, Chaine des Rotisseurs and L'Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Degustateurs.

He and his wife, Bonnie, make their home on Paradise Island.
