David Kurland and Partners Open the 84 Room Water Club
in San Juan; A Member of Design Hotels
.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico On October 15, The Water Club San becomes Puerto Rico's first ultra-chic contemporary design hotel in the Caribbean.  The grand opening of San Juan's only boutique on a beach is November 1, 2001. A re-freshing splash from the large chain resorts, the city's newest is intimate, uncrowded, with superior personal service.  All 84 spacious rooms are water view, play-fully sexy with custom-designed beds uniquely positioned to face the ocean.  In the hotel's corridors, soothing sounds are gently breaking waves.

Water Club Management

Managing director as well as owner of The Water Club is David Kurland, former president and managing director of the El San Juan Hotel & Casino, and earlier managing director of the Grand Bay, in Florida's Coconut Grove.

His partners in the owner company, Chadwick Hospitality, are Michael Chadwick, whose career included COO of Fairmont Hotels; president and CEO of Premier Cruises, and executive vice-president of Carnival Hotels and Casinos.  Another partner is Joaquin Bolivar, founder of the airline that became American Eagle in the Caribbean.

Unique in Puerto Rico

In contrast to Puerto Rico's conventional resorts, The Water Club is an exclusive small hotel with very personalized service.

Trend-setting and hip, its avant-garde design never shocks, is not bizarre, and doesn't simulate a Fellini movie set.  It is a rare combination of comfort, contemporary style and

luxury conducive to pleasurable business as well as leisure travel.

Waterfalls behind glass including in the elevators, inventive theatrical lighting, and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the out-doors inside. The sky's palette of colors and the ocean's wave shapes are part of the decor. Superb glass-art doors are one-of-a-kind, by a San Juan sculptor trained in Murano, Italy.

Rooftop Bar and Fireplace

An open-air 11th-floor showcases a spacious, exotic bar (named The Wet Bar) and the Caribbean's only rooftop fireplace.  The seductive decor is striped zebra wood bar stools, futons, white sectional pillowy sofas, and tables and side tables of sensuous design.  Walls feature Indonesian carved-teak panels. Other decor is from Italy, Colombia and Brazil as well as U.S. The pool is on a level above, surrounded by endless ocean and sky. In a turret above hat is the massage treatment center, a massage table hung from the ceiling, viewing ocean. An outdoor fitness center, under a canopy, is adjacent to the sun deck.

In a city famed for vibrant lifestyle and nightlife, The Water Club's stylish and sizeable main bar, appropriately named Liquid, is already San Juan's most fashionable new hang-out.  Additionally, there is a private club (exclusively for guests and VIPs) named Moist. A dinner restaurant serves Pacific Rim cuisine overlooking the Atlantic. Room service is 24 hours.

The exciting Water Club is ideally located for pre/post cruises.  In posh Isla Verde, it is just five minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from the cruise docks in Old San Juan, and convenient to the best restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

It is San Juans only hotel on a private, gated street Overlooking the city's best beach (still bordered with palms and no crowds). Its site is a residential area, virtu-ally private and exclu-sive.  Yet it's a quick stroll over white-sand beach, or on pavement, to the nearby big resorts.
