The Park South Hotel in Manhattan |
NEW YORK -- September 4, 2001 -- The Park South
Hotel, located in Manhattan's emerging "Rosehill" neighborhood, officially
opened its doors on September 4 announced Don Glassie, head of Atlantic
Stars Hospitality Group, owner and operator of the hotel.
The 143-room hotel, housed in an historic 1906 building, features classic-contemporary design, along with state-of-the-art amenities, personalized services and an in-house bistro featuring New American cuisine and a cocktail lounge. The Park South provides business and leisure travelers alike with a warm, refined and intimate hotel experience in an ideal location. Situated between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue on 28th Street, the Park South is convenient to both midtown business areas and downtown cultural attractions and is within walking distance of the Flatiron District, the Empire State Building, Gramercy Park, Greenwich Village, the newly restored Grand Central Station and the Green Market of Union Square. A number of the hotel's guestrooms offer stunning views of the nearby Chrysler Building. In addition, the Park South Hotel features a mezzanine library focusing
on New York history and an extensive display of photographs of old New
York selected from the collections of the New York Historical Society.
Park South's careful restoration evokes the classic era of independent New York hotels, while providing the comfort and convenience of an ultra high-tech, full service property. The hotel's amenities include high-speed Internet access, in-room printer/fax/copiers, high-tech conference facilities, business and fitness centers, concierge services and fine linens and bath products. "Our vision for Atlantic Stars' first Manhattan hotel is an ambitious one: a distinctive property that serves as a home away from home for discriminating travelers, one that combines the latest amenities with the comfortable appeal of a boutique hotel," said Glassie. "A contemporary take on the classic New York hotel, Park South will offer an antidote to the ultra-minimalist approach so prevalent these days. We hope the Park South will be a warm, lively and reliable New York institution from the day it opens." Park South's restaurant, The Black Duck, will open in early fall 2001 under the direction of Gerry Quinn, executive chef of A Fish Called Avalon, Atlantic Stars' highly-rated seafood grill in Miami's South Beach. Nestled in a newly restored brownstone adjacent to the hotel, The Black Duck bar and restaurant takes its name from the rum running boat known for its involvement in an incident that helped end prohibition in the U.S. in the 1920s. The restaurant will feature a cocktail lounge -- which will offer the hotel's signature Black Duck Rum -- and a New American menu developed by Quinn. Park South Hotel is part of the Newport-based Atlantic Stars Hospitality Group. Other Atlantic Stars properties include: The Avalon Hotel, Majestic Hotel and South Seas Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida; the Harborside Inn, Jailhouse Inn, Yankee Peddler Inn and Newport Gateway Hotel in Newport, Rhode Island; and the Pequot Hotel on Martha's Vineyard. Atlantic Stars also operates several cruise vessels, including the schooner Madeleine and motor yacht Rum Runner II, which offer classic day cruises in Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. The company also owns and operates Arabella, a 160-foot luxury sailing vessel providing seven-day cruises throughout the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and four- and six-night summer cruises in New England.
