Adds Five Leaders To Its �Wall of Fame�
November 1, 2001, East Lansing, Michigan.
One distinguished hotelier will be honored as the Industry Leader of the
Year, and five Michigan State University alumni will be inducted into The
School of Hospitality Business Alumni Association�s Wall of Fame on Sunday,
November 11, 2001 at the annual Celebration of Leadership. The event
is scheduled during the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show
in New York City.
The Celebration of Leadership will recognize J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman
of the board and chief executive officer of Marriott International Inc.,

School�s 2001 Industry Leader of the Year. The recipient of this
award portrays a strong statement of our School�s leadership in hospitality
business education, and recognizes those individuals who best exemplify
that leadership in the hospitality industry. Mr. Marriott is the
son of Marriott Corporation founder J.Willard Marriott and began his career
in the hospitality industry as a management trainee in the Service Standards
area of his father�s restaurant chain in Washington, DC.
The Celebration of Leadership will also induct five members into the
Wall of Fame �Class of Contributors�.

division of dormitories and food services and assistant vice president
for business operations, Michigan State University;

Ronald F. Cichy, Ph.D., CHA (BA �72, MBA �77), director and professor,
The School of Hospitality Business, Michigan State University;

Dan H. Mathews (BA �66), senior vice president and chief operating officer,
National Automatic Merchandising Association;

Donald A. Payne (BA �65), president and owner, Family Buggy Restaurants,
Inc.; and

Lou Weckstein (BA �58), president, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. (as pictured
below).
These five distinguished alumni will join 37 previously inducted alumni
in the Wall of Fame. The School�s Wall of Fame recognizes MSU graduates
who are distinguished leaders in the hospitality industry and who have
assisted in positioning The School and/or Michigan State University; donate
their time, talents and treasures to The School and/or Michigan State University;
provide major contributions to their company or organization and participant
in civic, community, association and philanthropic activities. A
tribute to the Wall of Fame inductees, all Michigan State University graduates,
is located at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on the campus of
Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan
The Celebration of Leadership begins with a reception at 11:30 a.m.,
followed by a luncheon at 12:15 p.m., and concluding with the formal inductions
