Biras Creek Resort in British Virgin Islands Spares
No Expense to Refurbish for Re-opening
October 28, 2001

One of Caribbeans few remaining elegant
yet understated resorts

VIRGIN GORDA, BVI, October 2001 -- Biras Creek Resort on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands has spared no expense to secure a refreshing ambiance for guests when it opens its doors for the winter season on Oct. 28. A multi-million dollar refurbishment has added a new Massage Hut on the beach and has dressed this elegant-yet-understated resort from its 33 Garden and Ocean Guest Suites to restaurants with new furniture, fabrics, technical accoutrements and toiletries.

Natural, custom-designed and hand-printed fabrics in aquatic and tropical floral themes are used in nine Garden and 21 Ocean Guest Suites for bed coverings and linens, window treatments, upholstery and wall hangings. Terra cotta lamps compliment locally hand-crafted wooden trunks and shelves and the special-order rattan furniture from Indonesia.

The two Grand Suites sport new terra cotta tile floors, hand-painted fabrics on beds and windows and re-designed oversized bathrooms featuring indoor/outdoor shower and free-standing deep bathtub. In addition, the Premier Suite features Eddie Bauer-designed rattan and teak furniture throughout.

All accommodations are appointed with Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, Sony CD Players and natural cotton Balinese-style kimonos that guests can take home with them.

The resorts dining room located in the hilltop stone castle already offers spectacular sunsets and panoramic views of the North Sound. Now the views are even more profound as the lower dining room floor of newly laid stone tiles has been elevated three feet offering a better overlook. An original batik wall hanging, designed exclusively for Biras Creek, will hang in the dining room. The adjacent open-air lounge is tropically enhanced by the installation of new rattan furniture.

Modifications to the restaurants menu include a new healthy choice each day. A new wine list representing the best affordable wines from all over the world includes 135 selections with a focus on French and North American varieties along with wines from Israel, Lebanon, Mexico and England.

Expanded activities include complimentary sailing instruction aboard Biras Creeks two new 26-foot Folk sailboats. To ensure that guests are relaxed after a day of water sports, a new thatch-roofed Massage Hut has been tucked, for privacys sake, behind the mangroves at Deep Bay. There are new hand-carved and crafted signs throughout the resort.

Biras Creek, a member of Relais & Chateaux, is a private hideaway on a 140-acre nature reserve on Virgin Gorda. Accessible by boat only, Biras Creek comprises 33 spacious suites, all with water views. Guests enjoy boating and sailing, with access to remote private islands by boat. The resort itself is accessible only by boat.

Relais & Chateaux is the prestigious global hospitality association of intimate, elegant and independently owned hotels and acclaimed restaurants.  Founded in 1954 in France the association is comprised of 452 elegant hotels and restaurants in 47 countries.
