Sleep Inn's New Prototype Includes Larger Rooms;
Seeks Higher ADR

Silver Spring, MD (November 26, 2001) The next generation prototype for Sleep Inn, launched this summer to broaden the brands appeal to primary and secondary market developers, now also features unique Contemporary and Craftsman design options, in addition to the traditional design associated with the brand.

With the launch of the new prototype, our aim is to give developers more options to consider, depending on their market conditions, said Thom Hall, vice president, brand management & strategies. Weve taken the signature elements of the brand and expanded on them to suit developers needs.

Although the exterior designs differ, the three Sleep Inn designs all incorporate the brands signature elements contemporary design, exterior tower, atrium lobby and in-room efficiencies as well as the following:

  • A combination of approximately 80 rooms and suites, expandable depending on market demand. At least 25 percent of the rooms must be suites.
  • Larger standard rooms.
  • A mix of traditional tub/shower combinations and the brands signature shower-only room.
  • A move from wall-hung to free-standing guest room furniture.
  • A switch from fixed fluorescent to more traditional lighting.
  • Addition of an ergonomic guest chair in each room.
  • Improved layout of breakfast area.
According to Hall, the new design, coupled with the brands reimaging campaign that is slated for completion in June 2002, are ultimately expected to net a 20 percent increase in average daily rate for the brand. Historically, Sleep Inn development has been strong in tertiary and some secondary markets, he said. Weve built a solid base in these critical markets. This next generation prototype, with its exterior design options, suites and larger
rooms, positions the brand to compete in primary markets.
