 KSL Recreation Corp. to Purchase Legendary La Costa 
Resort and Spa; Plans Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

SAN DIEGO - Nov. 7, 2001 -- KSL Recreation Corp., owners and operators of a number of marquee resorts across the United States, has entered into an agreement to purchase the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

KSL, owner and operator of such luxury destination resorts as La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif., the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix and the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa on Maui Hawaii, plans to launch a major renovation of the world-famous 479-room property early in 2002, Michael S. Shannon, chief executive officer of KSL announced today.

La Costa Resort and Spa is legendary among spa aficionados as well as professional and amateur golfers and tennis players. The expansive resort, set on 400 rolling acres in the coastal foothills north of San Diego offers a full-service experience year round. La Costa is fully equipped with two 18-hole golf courses, an expansive spa and a top-level tennis center. For guests mixing business with pleasure, the resort offers excellent and extensive meeting, convention, and banquet facilities.

�La Costa Resort and Spa is the perfect addition to the KSL Recreation collection of distinctive resorts,� stated Scott M. Dalecio, president of the Resort Division for KSL. �The resort has a longstanding tradition of attracting leaders in business, sports figures, celebrities and those seeking a luxury getaway in the San Diego area. We consider ourselves fitting stewards of the La Costa Resort and Spa and are delighted to welcome it to our KSL family,� he added.

The sale is expected to close later this month. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

KSL Recreation Corp. is a La Quinta-based owner and operator of La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA WEST in La Quinta; The Claremont Resort & Spa in Berkeley, Calif.; The Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix; Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami; Grand Traverse Resort and Spa near the shores of Lake Michigan; Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa on Maui; and Lake Lanier Islands Resort near Atlanta.

KSL�s holdings are comprised of over 4,000 hotel rooms, more than 400,000 square feet of meeting space, 350,000 square feet of spa and fitness facilities, 17 golf courses including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Gary Player, Tom Weiskopf, Raymond Floyd, Jerry Pate and Pete Dye, over 75 tennis courts, 30 restaurants, 40 retail outlets and eight clubhouses.
