CC Africa's Kwandwe Lodge and Game Reserve
Will Create Jobs, Restore Wildlife
Kwandwe game reserve carries on tradition of sustainable utilization

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, July 16 -Conservation Corporation Africa's (CC Africa) Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, operating with the mission statement, "Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People," has restored 17,000 hectares of barren farmland to pristine wilderness and reintroduce game that originally flourished in the area. The reserve is the dream of American philanthropist, Carl DeSantis, who, with the assistance of Angus Sholto-Douglas, has made eco-tourism a reality on Africa's eastern Cape.

Kwandwe Reserve, which opens its Big Five Eastern Cape gates to guests this October, is modeled after the extraordinarily successful, decade-old Phinda Private Game Reserve to the north. Sholto-Douglas and wife, Tracy, are Kwandwe's game reserve developers / directors. According to Sholto-Douglas, "Projects of this kind have a visible impact on the people in the surrounding area. Carl's primary objectives are conservation and upliftment of the people in the region. Sustainable utilization is what it's all about."

Development of the lodge brings housing,

The new lodge will consist of just six luxurious suites, each featuring intimate living areas, en suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and welcoming, covered verandas. Each suite will have a private thatched observation deck overlooking the Fish River. The décor and finishes will set a new standard of luxury with African-inspired décor characterised by a subtle blend of
earth-toned fabrics, indigenous timber and early African artefacts and antiques.
career opportunities and training, plus it spurs growth in local industry. Taxes paid by the enterprise will contribute funding for general improvement of the area.

DeSantis' intention is to invest in existing educational and health facilities and to begin a skills development program focused on the hospitality industry.

Environmental education programs demonstrating the positive effects of conservation are also planned. This is a welcome boom to the eastern Cape, which has the highest rate of unemployment in the country.
