    Hoyt Bacon Promoted to Chief Marketing Officer at 
MeriStar Hotels & Resorts
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 5, 2001-- MeriStar Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: MMH), the nation�s largest independent hotel management company, today announced that Hoyt Bacon has been promoted to chief marketing officer.  Previously, he was executive vice president, sales and marketing.

In his newly created position, Bacon will be responsible for the marketing activities of the company�s 219 managed hotels and 4,000 BridgeStreet Corporate Housing Worldwide units, including sales, advertising and public relations.  He will take on additional duties of enhancing marketing relationships with the company�s hotel franchise companies to increase marketing, sales and reservation efforts.  He will manage the company�s distribution marketing channels and expand the company�s electronic marketing initiatives.  In addition, he will oversee the marketing of the company�s Doral brand.

Prior to joining MeriStar in 1999, Bacon was president and founder of United Direct Response (UDR), a leading direct marketing and fulfillment company, where he developed strategies, marketing plans and promotions for the world�s leading travel and hospitality companies.  Previously, he held senior-level sales and marketing positions at Amfac Hotels and Westin Hotels & Resorts.

Bacon received a B.S. in Hotel & Restaurant Management Science from the University of Denver.  He is a board member of the California Travel Industry Association, past president of Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, chairman emeritus of HSMAI�s Educational Foundation and an invited member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants.
